5. Let's wait and see
It's still too early to tell if the US isn't a country to be feared.

4. There is no consistent answer, and choices given are ludicrous
Edited on Mon Apr-13-09 02:57 PM by dmallind
Ask anyone in South Korea this question for example. Or East Timor.

There is no country - not even us - that is a threat to the entire globe or even most of it. There are greater regional threats and lesser ones (N Korea and Iran for example), and there are ideological threats that have scattered but not equally broadcast threatening influence (China, the US etc).

Probably the biggest individual threat is Iran, given that it resides in a powder keg region and is implacably opposed to another nation in the same region. That does not mean Iran is any threat worth noticing to Sweden, or even the US per se, just that it's more likely than other countries to precipitate a wide-ranging conflict.

37. Exactly...a citizen of India would probably pick Pakistan
A Tibetan would pick China and so on. If this is about making the universal answer the U.S., that is just wrong and very US centric thinking.

It'll depend on the region.

6. The one they live in
Relatively few people around the globe need fear foreign aggression nearly as much as the destructive potential of their own governments.

20. If you look up "pithy" in the dictionary it turns out to be much more complimentary than it sounds.
(There's no listing for "answser" though.)

27. One man with a rifle is more of a threat than 100 men with spears
One man with a rifle is more of a threat than 100 men with spears.

If that is indeed true, it would appear one must objectively look at the armed forced of the top nation-states, in collusion with that nation's population, propensity to engage in armed conflict, that nation's moral, that nation's level stewardship with what they have etc.

Seems to me there's more than mere population when the term "threat" is used. That in fact, population is merely one of many factors that should be taken into account.

36. My argument isn't that China's manpower is dangerous.
It is, rather, that the enormous number of people who are at the mercy of the Chinese government's whims is greater than that subject to any other government.

I bet someone in South Korea would have a different opinion than someone in Iraq. Good poll for general US hate though...I'm sure we'll win this push poll.

16. It's ironic to me that
when the US loses one of these polls, people are being 'irrational'. When a different country comes out bad, there are some 'excellent reasons' why the results came out as they did.
