Why is President Obama suddenly quiet on Iraq??
all during the campaign, Obama made much noise about getting us out of Iraq.

It was the main thrust of his big anti-war platform that he would begin the withdrawal process immediately upon taking office and bringing the troops home...but post-election we hear vitually nothing about it. We do hear a lot about massive troop deployments and escalation in Afghanistan, but not a word about bringing the troops home.

Don't give this 'it's only been 3 months' crap. The WH has time to draw up plans and making big public announcements about their plans for massive escalation in Afghanistan, but no time to make plans for bringing our exhausted, broken troops home from Iraq? What's up with that??

10. So far its only his words
President Obama makes some vague statements at Camp LeJeune about bringing the troops home but not really much in the way of specifics. If he were serious about it I think he would make a formal press announcement about his specific plans to immediately bringing the troops home like he promised to do. I will believe it when I see it. All I see right now are more troops being shipped to Afghanistan but no one is coming home from Iraq, except when its in a coffin that is.

18. Damn, that's probably true
I voted for Obama but always felt uncomfortable about his stated plans for escalating the war in Afghanistan. I thought maybe he was just saying that to avoid looking weak on defense. Even if he did escalate once in office, it would be maybe by a couple thousand or so troops at the most. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would amount to tens of thousands.

Extremely disappointing to say the least. And where the hell are all those troops going to come from? You're right, they'll send the troops home from Iraq for a bit of R&R...but then they'll just send them right back...to Afghanistan!

7. I think you must be confusing our new President with the dick-waving Bush.
He can actually work behind the scenes on Iraq without bluster and postering in front of the press. Go figure?

15. He's done some good, no doubt
I don't expect anyone to be perfect, but you'd have to agree Iraq and the economy are the two biggest issues on people's minds, and those were the top two issues that Obama ran on.

His performance on these two issues are the most important things that overshadow almost everything else, and its what his presidency will be defined by most. Obama may be doing an excellent job in the eyes of Wall Street, but the economists are all saying his economic team has done a poor job of handling the economic crisis. On Iraq, well, the jury's still out but it's not looking that great either. I will take a wait and see approach. Maybe next month Obama will make hold a big press conference to announce the first batch of troops to withdraw from Iraq. I can only hope.

12. He hasn't been quiet. He's established his policy including 16 month (16?) withdraw timetable
Now, I want to look at the plan more closely and understand when troops start coming home - I have only read the summary so far.

19. So even when people provide links to the very thing you're bitching about
You play the "I'll believe it when I see it" card. I think that pretty much shows what your objective here is.

(In a nutshell, he's renaming it a "police action".)
