Afghan Women's Rights Activist Assassinated
Source: UPI

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, April 13 (UPI) -- A United Nations official Monday called the weekend assassination of a prominent women's right activist in Afghanistan cowardly.

Sitara Achikzai was fatally shot by two motorcyclists outside her home in Kandahar Sunday after a provincial council meeting in southern Afghanistan, the U.N. assistance mission in Afghanistan said.

U.N. mission spokeswoman Nilab Mobarez said officials with the international organization were "sickened by the senseless murder."

"Those responsible for this callous act have clearly shown their disrespect for true Afghan honor and traditions," she said in a statement released by the United Nations in New York, adding there is no justification for such a cowardly act.

5. That's cool. It's technically legal.
I guess, as a woman, I don't want the brave women of Afghanistan to be used as "props" for us keeping these two M.E. countries occupied.

General Peaches Petraeus and some of the covert OPS crones are NOT thinking about the rights of women.

The longer we stay and continue the drone bombings, the more "innocents" (women and children) suffer.

It's the same old story - War hurts those who are innocent the most. It's always the women, children and old men who are left, all but broken, to pick up the pieces.

I hope and pray to our higher power that Obama pulls our troops out of both of these countries. There are several "allies" where we can station combat troops and the Air Force should we need to strike out on any Special Ops.

Anyway, I'm saddened at this leaders death but also that this event opens the door for warmongers to USE WOMEN of Afghanistan again - IMO - for pro-occupation propaganda. :(

4. Yeah, too bad the WOMEN of Afghanistan don't want any damn thing to do with the invaders.
Don't kid yourself, we're already negotiating with the taliban, to include giving tribal elders Viagra.

We are NOT the answer to giving women and children increased rights.

An increased standard of living and giving THEIR COUNTRY back to the natives with stable tribal governing will go a long way to increasing the status of women and the disenfranchised.

Or should we CRAWL INTO their culture? I don't think so. The women who are abused by their elders and husbands would give their lives to save them and their children.

WHY? It's called "nationalism."

Study the History of the so called "Vietnam Conflict" and KNOW that the natives are going nowhere and they have already WON.

The only question is: How MANY MORE American Troops and Innocents must be killed or maimed before we realize that "occupations don't work" and extract our military from these TWO (Iraq & Afghanistan) unlawful/immoral occupations?

Again, these MEN are their husbands, fathers and tribesmen. The WOMEN will defend them before they would accept the INVADERS (that's US).
