Someone PLEASE Tell Me This Is Satire- Obama Vows "To Halt The Rise Of Piracy"

Obama vows to fight piracy after captain's rescue

By ELIZABETH A. KENNEDY and PAULINE JELINEK, Associated Press Writers Elizabeth A. Kennedy And Pauline Jelinek, Associated Press Writers – 1 hr 14 mins ago

MOMBASA, Kenya – President Barack Obama vowed Monday "to halt the rise of piracy," while shipmates of the rescued American freighter captain called for tough action against Somali bandits who are preying on one of the world's busiest sea routes.

Obama appeared to move up the piracy issue on his agenda,
saying the United States would work with nations elsewhere in the world.

"I want to be very clear that we are resolved to halt the rise of piracy in that region and to achieve that goal, we're going to have to continue to work with our partners to prevent future attacks," Obama said at a Washington news conference.

1. I think halting the rise of, and eliminate have too different meanings.
I read an article earlier tonight that included all forms of diplomatic options from humanitarian/economic, helping local enforce boost thier ranks, education, etc.

2. A take no prisoners policy is fairly compelling,
Seeing your cohorts get their brains blown out might cause a bit of reflection.

4. Does the death penalty even correlate with less violent crime?
Essentially, that is a parallel argument. The answer has been, in the past, "no".

10. Piracy has been steadily increasing since the 1990's in the Far East
and Africa - it's not just this one incident.
Don't see a problem with trying to stop it from increasing should have been done long ago - like maybe 8 years ago....

11. Sounds good to me.
If Bush were still president, he'd say something like "We will eradimacate the pirates".

13. If Bush were still in office
he'd offer the pirates amnesty in exchange for Johnny Depp's autograph and a ride in costume on his ship.

15. We should increase people kidnapping and holding people for ransom?
I don't want a president who is going to help people kidnap and murder people
