CBS NEWSIES BARE CLAWS

IT'S catfight time at CBS, where "Inside Edition" host Deborah Norville took a swipe at "The Early Show" anchor Maggie Rodriguez. Norville went on CNN's "Reliable Sources" Sunday and slammed Rodriguez for her interview with Levi Johnston, who admitted shacking up with Bristol Palin at her mom, Sarah Palin's, home. Norville said, "In the interview with the woman from CBS, he said, yes, I stayed there . . . Did you stay there for weeks at a time? Did you stay one night on occasion? Did the governor know when you were staying there? There were so many follow-up questions. For heaven's sakes, if you're going to be a reporter, act like one." A rep for "The Early Show" had no comment. A CBS insider raged, "The interview was picked up everywhere, including by 'Inside Edition,' which used it twice. And who cares what Deborah Norville thinks about journalism?" An "Inside Edition" rep declined to comment.

ELIOT SPITZER'S WANDERING EYE ON AG

BEHIND Eliot Spitzer's flaccid attempt at re-erecting his public persona is a plan to run for state attorney general in 2010, sources told Page Six.
After launching a column on Slate.com, and giving interviews to National Public Radio and the "Today" show, the sources say, the disgraced former governor told friends: "My record as governor was disappointing, but the voters will remember my excellent two terms as attorney general."

The sources say Spitzer, forever tarnished as Client No. 9 of a prostitution agency, expects Andrew Cuomo to run for governor next year, leaving open the AG job. Several Democrats are already being mentioned as potential candidates, including Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi and state Assemblymen Richard Brodsky (Westchester) and Michael Gianaris (Queens).

But Spitzer, whose resignation just 13 months ago led to the gubernatorial ascension of hapless David Paterson, might be underestimating the public's memory. Even before Spitzer went on "Today" to resurrect his image as "the sheriff of Wall Street" and discuss his "gremlins," a New York Times column recently referred to him as "that caustic echo of yesteryear." ....

THE PROBLEM WITH A DISCLAIMER is its coming off as defensive, especially when it's preemptive. Trouble is, it's damned if do/don't: NOT including it first results in the predictable problems.

DISCLAIMER re: linking to the NY Post (for to head-off highly predictable, OT/hijacking posts):: Yes, it is a RAG. Yes, it is owned by NewsCorp/Faux's MURDOCH. No, he doesn't Dictaphone content to his gossip columnists. No, "gossip" does NOT equate to "UNtruth" (OR with "triviality" for that matter). These old time gossipers are more journalistically reliable than Tweety and such ilk. Frequently, political tidbits are here first, later to show up in more "respectable" venues. Keep friends close, enemies closer. Cherrypicking intel results in self-fulfilling FALSENESS. I got hooked on these gossipers when they were on the E!1 network and, when they were cancelled, tracked them down and they happened to be at the RAG (NY Post). ALL I read at the RAG are the gossip and the horoscope. On Edit: If this disclaimer is NOT ENOUGH, if you don't like this o.p., PLEASE just click OUT without leaving your any-further-a(doo-doo)!1

3. Spitzer was a good AG, and I think he would be again.
What did he do that was so awful?

Was it worse than David Vitter (R-LA Pooper Scooper) hiring hookers?

Was it worse than Newt Gingrich (R-Bigoted Asshole) having an affair while married?

Vitter still has his seat in Congress, and Gingrich still seems to get plenty of air time as a top Republican.

The only difference is Spitzer is a Democrat. What they've all done is wrong, but as far as I can see, only one of them has done the right thing to try to make up for his mistakes.

4. Spitzer made himself vulnerable to blackmail by hiring hookers. That's irresponsible.
Now that everyone - including his wife - knows he hires hookers, he's no longer vulnerable to blackmail.

So, ironically, yes, he would be a good AG.
