Who are these people?

This isn't just a difference in opinion.
Maybe it's a difference in species.
As far as I can tell Rush Limbaugh did not foresee this current economic debacle. He did not tell his little "dittoheads" to turn their assets into cash to avoid the looming loses. Actually, like McCain, he supported the economy and Bush's handling of it until the whole thing went down the toilet.
If he had predicted the greatest economic catastrophe in the last 60 years, I would bow and admit to his genius. But he did not.
Yet now this failed prognosticator is foretelling a horrific future under a Democratic president. Millions of people listen and believe. Who are these people? I don't understand them at all.
When I was younger it was popular to ponder this question, "How did the German people fall for the whole Nazi thing?" That question seems silly to me now. All you have to do is tell people that they are better than everybody else and deserve more than everybody else and they will line up in droves.
