Or don't. Either way, am I the only person doesn't give a damn about it?

I admit that it's nice to see the kids having a good time with the pooch, though.

their way, I'm all for it.

One of the daughters is allergic to most dogs so I understand the choice of breeds based on that consideration of her health.

Her allergy to most dogs should not preclude her having the chance to love this one.

Some nice management of the whole thing by the President and the First Lady for their two young folks.

The hyperventilating over the dog has been a running embarrassment here.

It's a fucking DOG!! It licks its privates, eats its vomit, sniffs shit, and then kisses your face.

I like dogs, but I don't gush with adoration over them. I have used HIDE THREAD for the offenders, and for the serial offenders, I put them on Ignore for threads they start, (not for their replies in other threads).

38. Some people need to "get a life"
You can adjust "get a life" to whatever your view is. In light of the misery so many people are in today it just seems so silly and trite for there to be so much attention focused on a family pet. On the other hand it was nice to see the man who has the weight of a tumultuous world on his shoulders, smiling and running with the new family puppy today.

50. Children Care and it is a good way to get them engaged in current events.
Obama's family and personal life are important in many ways. Talking to your children about the president's dog is a good way to get them engaged in politics and current events. Being president isn't only about policy and governing. It is also about being a role model for the country. It is warm and engaging; it normalizes an otherwise extraordinary man. I care also because I am a dog lover. Pets are an American way of life. Why do you care so much to write this any way? If you really didn't care, you would have just ignored the whole thing. Oh, I think you care.

71. In fact, I care NOT to know -- coverage = royalty, bullshit, distraction ...
The president is not my family, or yours.

If this is to be a Republic of a sovereign people with democratic institutions, then the relationship between the people and their elected representatives must be formal, defined solely by the constitutional and legal parameters, without the distraction and distortion of personality (insofar as the latter is not relevant to political decision making; the dog certainly is not).

Devices to make it seem like these people (any officials you see only via television or media) are friends or family serve only to make the rest of us into material, an audience, vicarious children, a mass for sculpting.

This is of course not a criticism of Obama per se; it's how presidents have been packaged all along. The political confidence game of the monarch slipping into the role of your personal friend/protector/family member is as old as history. The struggle to emerge from totem and monarchy and ape-level stimulus-response social hierarchy is almost as old, and has made slow progress over the course of the last few centuries.

75. Cute dog.
Looks like the girls are happy and thats all that matters. I don't give a damn what job he has, its his family--and no one has the right to lecture him on how he should raise his children.

78. Keith agrees with you, but I disagree.
I do care about the dog. Even though I'm more of a cat person, it's good PR for the Obamas--will make people want to pay attention even though they might disagree politically. Dog lovers will unite.

What I'm really sick of, speaking of Keith, are the "Bushed" segments. After eight years I've had it and hope I never have to hear his name mentioned again!

I tried to contact the show but there is no way to do it. They give you a link to his blog which hasn't been updated in over a month.

80. I'll add that I could NOT care less about how many sleeves Michelle Obama's dress has.

I AM interested in learning though, which junior staffer will be tasked with walking the dog and cleaning up its shit. That's news, brother...

I have no doubt, that when the day comes for said staffer to write his/her autobiography, the words "I hate picking up that fucking dog's shit" written in their journal will change to "Bo and I had the most rewarding walk today!"

82. We have a real first family. American children can now relate to
the first children in one more way. I have absolutely no
problem with it. In fact, in times of hardships, people need
an outlet and this dog is one of them. Many Americans have
pets and this is a nice connection.

I care about as much about their god as I do about their dog.

87. The girls look so happy with their puppy.
Now they need to learn how to walk it. It's really people training not dog training. Learning how to "speak" dog is a good thing.

92. I was glad they didn't get a Lab
popularity leads to overbreeding, which ruins dog breeds. We didn't need a whole lot more "me too" lab owners.
