RW propagandists are defensive about their extremism
Edited on Wed Apr-15-09 11:11 AM by Enrique
I heard something pretty cool last night on the RW Hugh Hewitt's radio show.

He and a guest were talking about the DOJ's report on potential militia movement type violence, and foaming at the mouth about it.

His guest made some comment that suggested he supported violence in some circumstances. Hugh quickly said, "um, you know Media Matters is monitoring this so let's clarify..."

I thought that was pretty cool. A lot of the stuff we're seeing now reminds me of the stuff in the 90's, Oklahoma City, Ruby Ridge, Waco, and everything surrounding those events. And it seems scarier now because we have people on TV like Glenn Beck who are playing up their fears and hatreds. Was there anyone on TV back then? Maybe Morton Downey Jr. was their main representative but now it seems we have a hundred Morton Downey Jrs.

Anyway, hearing Hewitt say that about MediaMatters made me feel better. Maybe the difference now is that the haters are being watched, and back in the Clinton days they were ignored.

edit: Morton, not Robert, lol. Sorry Robert!

10. I didn't know that
but his Wikipedia entry contains some hilarious fictions. Most of the info seems legitimate, but it's always good to remember that anyone can edit Wikipedia...

Morton Downey Jr. also: attended the Georgia Military Academy; held a law degree and a PhD in Political Science; was a special assistant to the Deputy Attorney General of the United States and a consultant to Robert F. Kennedy; and won a Papal Award from Pope John Paul IV for his work in Africa—which included smuggling several Catholic priests to safety in the trunk of his car.

6. A lot of folks thought that after we won the presidency and the house
...wingnut venues such as Fox and talk radio would disappear.

I did not think this. Having Democrats in the majority is good for wingnut business.

9. What Beck and Limburger don't realize is...
if their rhetoric were to fire up some sociopathic lunatic who pulled off some horrific terrorist attack, and did so in Beck's name, the conservative movement in America would be over FOREVER, and Fox News and right-wing radio would be out of business overnight. The average citizen would direct huge amounts of rage at conservatives as a whole, and at Fox News and Beck, and O'Reilly, and Limburger in particular.

They are sowing the seeds of their own utter destruction, and the more successful they are at inflaming the passions of their faithful followers, the sooner that utter destruction will come to pass.
