I just got back from the Madison Teagbagging Party
Edited on Wed Apr-15-09 01:21 PM by MadBadger
I will say that I was surprised how many people showed up, probably about 3-5,000 people. College Republicans didnt show up, that was for sure. I think a lot of the people there were shipped in from across the state.

These people are crazy. All facets of nutbaggery were represented there. You had the Obama Birth Certificate people, The Obama is a fascist, socialist, communist scumbag...There were the No Taxation without Representation people (which makes absolutely no sense)

There were the "Obama's plan=White Slavery" people and on the other side of the sign they called him the anti-christ.

I didnt really understand what problems the second amendment people had, but then again I dont understand most of what these people were bitching about.

All in all, it was very pathetic. Shame on those people that use their 4 year olds as props for these protests. Its not cute, its sick.

1. I sure hope no College Republicans show up from UW
I'd find it ironic that people who are getting state funded education would be pissed off today about taxes.

8. Told you. It's about "White Power".
This is why they are so splintered. They can't openly run on a "White Power" slogan. And it's alienating a lot of moderates who don't want to be known as associating with such.

The republican party is doomed. Shattered beyond repair.

9. Meghan McCain is their future.
The problem is that their party doesn't even have the vision to embrace someone like her. Instead they are distancing themselves from Ms. McCain and their own relevancy.

I can't imagine a scenario where I would vote for her, but I'd certainly prefer her opposition to the current set of morans they have.

11. Republican Party provided buses...
Crowd gathers for Madison tax protest; counter-rally expected

By Steven Walters of the Journal Sentinel

Posted: Apr. 15, 2009 11:02 a.m.

Madison - Mary Phelps of Burlington came to the Capitol on Wednesday to protest the leadership of President Barack Obama and Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle.

She was in place one hour before a rally to protest what she said was an erosion of personal freedoms under Obama and overspending by the governor. The rally was sponsored by Americans for Prosperity. The state Republican Party provided buses that brought protesters from an outlying parking area to the Capitol.

"I'm really upset at the changes that Obama has made," Phelps said. Her sign told Obama to "Keep your change. I'll keep freedoms. God bless the USA."

But Scot Ross, executive director of the Democratic-leaning group One Wisconsin Now, said his group was organizing some counter-protesters.

"If this corporate-funded rally is to oppose raising taxes on the wealthiest 1%, then we think the wealthiest 1% should show up and thank the crowd for protecting their tax breaks and opposing the closing of offshore tax havens," Ross said.

Earlier this year, Doyle signed into law a tax increase on businesses, which Democrats said ended loopholes that have allowed them to not pay state income taxes. Doyle also wants to create a new tax bracket, with a tax rate of 7.75%, for what he said would be the richest 1% of Wisconsin residents. Republican legislators have argued that the state should cut spending rather than raise taxes.

The Capitol "tea party" rally is one of many being held across the country to coincide with the deadline to file federal and state income taxes.

13. I was there too... and I'd say it was maybe 1,500 max
There was an announcement during the event where buses were leaving for Waukesha and Green Bay. From the looks of the crowd, they were all unemployed peeps that used to work for the paper factories.
