The political stupidity of DHS breaking ranks with returning veterans
Even if Janet Napolitano truly believes that returning American veterans pose a threat to the stability of the country,it is stupid,at this time for her to say so publicly. What good is done to the Obama administration by allowing this person to shoot it in the foot like this? Why needlessly alienate veterans and much of the population that heretofore had no ill will towards this administration? How does the Obama administration gain by this?

If there is an emerging schism in the political landscape and veterans are at the edge of that schism, now is the time for the Obama administration to reach out and remedy this divide while it is
possible.

Under Bush the DHS was fond of stupidities like color coding terrorist threats, encouraging duct tape and plastic sealing of houses and other absurdities.Perhaps it is the DHS itself that is irredeemably flawed and needs removal from the scene if it can only perpetuate stupidities such as todays.

Here is a little historical backround on what can happen when the government alienates its veterans in times of great economic trouble,we have been here before:

2. 99.9% of veterans will not hurt anyone upon coming home
The problem is that the .1% who do can cause a lot of damage and kill a lot of people. Timothy McVeigh killed 167 people.

5. You do realize this report was started under the Bush administration, don't you?
Besides, the DHS report does not say that veterans pose a threat. It's concern is the right-wing extremist groups who might try to recruit a few veterans who might be disgruntled or suffering from psychological issues. The target are right-wing extremist groups, NOT veterans.

Why don't you try reading the document instead of listening to right-wing blowhards repeating "talking points of the day".

6. The report encompassed many groups

She wasn't "singling out" veterans.

However, our veterans have been shafted for years and their displeasure with the powers that be, is real. We break them down, convert them into killers and when they come home we reward them with crappy health care, lousy benefits and broken promises on after-service education.

This kind of governmental neglect breeds Timothy McVeighs.

From the way it was presented, everyone thought it was from the Obama administration.

11. Hoover,Bush,Obama all at odds with veterans...
All demonstrate a government mistrustful of its veterans. Why? Because,in the case of Obama and Bush, soldiers were used to fight wars poorly supported by the populace, and by the soldiers themselves.
Of course the police functions of the state are mistrustful. The FBI mistrusts returning veterans.Stalins MGB(Ministry for State Security..later to become the KGB) imprisoned returning veterans who fought outside of the Soviet Union.Government mistrust of it's veterans is nothing new,or particular to Obama,Bush or the USA for that matter. It is,however, deeply offensive.

12. I did not get the impression
that returning Veterans would be a considered threat to the U.S. I got the impression that the right wing groups would try to recruit them for their combat skills.

Quite a different thing.
