Homeland Security assess risk of rise of Right Wing Extremists as high
The link, below, by itself, is to a PDF, not a web site. It is the entire 9 page report. Some of it you probably already knew, some of it you likely don't. The assessment goes back to that threat on Obama that led to his getting Secret Service protection long before other candidates did. It also talks about that right wing millionaire in Maine who was killed by his wife and in whose house the feds found the makings of four dirty bombs a shitload of right wing material. The link to the PDF/Report was borrowed from FauxNooz's web site, here, http://www.foxnews.com/politics/first100days/2009/04/14/homeland-security-warns-rise-right-wing-extremism/ because I could not turn up the actual report by any other means through a Google search.

In a nutshell, it says that recruitment activities are up and recruiting success is up because of three main factors:

Crap economy

Crap immigration policies

Black President

No surprises.

Also no surprise is that the right wing is spinning their ass off about what this says and because the assessment mentions in particular the somewhat more successful recruiting of disaffected military returnees. They're painting that as a government (spelled D-E-M-O-C-R-A-T-I-C) slap at veterans.

Hang on to your hats .... here we go ..........

1. This report was not supposed to be released
It was supposed to be distributed to law enforcement around the country, but was not intended for the general public. I'm not sure how it got out.

6. Everybody is paying attention to the teabagging, Stinky.
Getting a post replied to and reced often has to do with timing. I'm sure you know that.

I'm very disturbed by this whole astroturfed teabagging BS. It is an act of desperation for sure but it is more than that. This is a genuine media clusterfuck. It is astroturfing, we know that, driven by republican operatives under the surface. It is a manipulation of genuine populace concerns regarding the economy -- not to mention a whole host of underlying tensions not the least of which is having a black president. But, worse, if you look at the whole thing as a way of controlling populist focus (look how many threads on this subject there are here on DU!), controlling populist discussion and distorting it through disinformation about what Obama is actually doing, appealing to fears of "socialism" and "communism," so on and so forth, it begins to look far more sinister in its implications. As I posted in another thread I don't think this "spark" is going to "catch" no matter how much faux noise fans the flames -- at least not yet. BUT if the economic situation worsens significantly it could.

WOW -- just as I was typing these words I GOT A TEABAGGING ROBO CALL!!! I young male voice: "America are you aware of the teabagging parties that are happening in America today? Please take notice today!" (More or less verbatim"

This is VERY DANGEROUS STUFF people. It isn't out of hand yet but don't you EVER EVER EVER under estimate the criminality inherent in the right wing. They pray on people's fears and have practiced 'divide and conquer' techniques for decades.

7. Someone here on DU postulated that these 'events' are little more than white power rallies
I agree with that completely.

And it ties RIGHT BACK to this report. It takes just one person's being incited by this crap and we have a crisis.

9. People don't recall how hated JFK was by "some" people.
JFK was loved by a lot of the American population but not by all. There were a lot of people who didn't trust Kennedy because he was our first Catholic president. What made matters worse for JFK is that he was a forward thinker. He was beginning to understand the real threat the MIC and some of the other agencies were to America. Personally, I think that is what ultimately got him killed. There is a lot of hatred out there in this country and I'm a bit appalled how "lightly" too many DUers are taking it.

I don't want to have to say "I TOLD YOU SO!" later. I find this whole thing VERY troubling.
