And I don't mean so much what he says, ignorant as it may be and all, but rather his tone, accent, and even the sound of his voice itself.

I've lived in Texas since 1991, and I've yet to meet anyone here that actually sounds like that in real life, (although admittedly I've lived in the easternmost urban areas--Dallas and Houston). Seriously, if any of you have never been here, we really don't all talk like cowboys, and we aren't all idiots.

But anyway, I just watched the Countdown clip in the Videos section, and when I closed my eyes I literally couldn't tell the two of them apart, (well, except for the fact that Perry's really challenging Bush for the title of world's biggest dumbass, which in itself is saying a lot about Perry).

Does anyone else get the same impression?

(Edited to add: Sorry we Texans keep foisting these idiots onto the national stage guys.)

I noticed it too. My husband is from Houston area and east Texas, and he doesn't sound anything like those guys. He's got an accent, sure, but it's not like that.

3. Slightly more articulate, but 110% as smarmy.
Please spare me from another such hideous governor.... I have had about all I can take.

I miss Ann.

4. Yes he does. I had to turn off the clip I was just watching.

He thinks he's going to run for President in 2012. I can't stomach that voice because of PTBD (Post Traumatic Bush Disorder). I feel a really good speech from President Obama coming soon (on this succession and other such nonsense).

5. I doubt he'll risk a run...
There have been plenty of rumors swirling around the state for years about his sexual orientation. It's been suggested that his "preference" is not for his wife.

10. You're right -- it's a con
I commuted to Texas for over a year in the 90's. Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin. Never ran
into anyone who spoke like they do. Mind you, I ran into some die hard Texans but not like these
two. Here's what Perry has to think about. If he goes forward on this path, he'll make Exxon and
the other oil and corporate giants there totally pissed off. They'd be a 'foreign power' and we'd
have an explosion of BP stations across the USofA. Probably a real big investigation of Haliburton
and the rest of the Iraq/Katrina vendors there. It would be real ugly.

The is the end of the Republican Party. What next, a full alliance with the John Birch Society?
