8. She says it was a tribute to her mother
I knew that the first time I read her story.

2. Wicked isn't she
Good luck to her. Not much doubt she'll win I'd say. The Youtube hits went from just under 6 million by 2pm Brit. Summer Time yesterday to 11.7 million as I write 22 hour later.

7. Thanks for telling us.
I think she is wonderful. I read an article in a U.K. paper that her neighbors in Scotland would sit outside on their porches in the spring and summer so that they could hear her sing from inside her house through the open windows.

15. Awwww
I almost cried again watching that. Can you imagine what it must be like to be her?

I wish I could meet her and hug her and tell her how great she is in person. But I'll do the next best thing - keep her with me in my mind and make sure that I let other people, especially those who have been made fun of and rejected and stereotyped, know how great they are.

I hope that her story can inspire many other people to treat other humans like humans - with respect and compassion. May we all learn to see each other as the lovely and wonderful beings we are and break down the walls of stereotypes and expectations and projections in our minds.

14. I think she sings better than Elaine Page
I like her voice much more than Page's.

She said she studied in Livingston, I wonder if it was just with a voice coach or is there a school there. Whichever it may be, the coach should be very proud.

18. I have never heard Elaine Paige until a few minutes ago, I found clips on youtube.
Although Elaine Paige has a lovely voice, Susan Boyle's voice is far more beautiful. Everytime I hear her sing I start to weep.

19. Have you read this article?
http://www.theherald.co.uk/features/featuresopinon/display.var.2501746.0.The_beauty_that_matters_is_always_on_the_inside.php

I am such a fan of this woman, I love how she never gave up the dream and how she found the courage to follow her mother's suggestion.

22. Yes, I've read it and in fact commented a few times on a DU thread about it.
From the article - and this is so unfortunately how people have been conditioned by society to think. -

The answer is that only the pretty are expected to achieve. Not only do you have to be physically appealing to deserve fame; it seems you now have to be good-looking to merit everyday common respect. If, like Susan (and like millions more), you are plump, middle-aged and too poor or too unworldly to follow fashion or have a good hairdresser, you are a non-person.

I dread to think of how Susan would have left the stage if her voice had been less than exceptional. She would have been humiliated in front of 11 million viewers. It's the equivalent of being put in the stocks in front of the nation instead of the village. It used to be a punishment handed out to criminals. Now it is the fate of anyone without obvious sexual allure who dares seek opportunity.

23. I would love to hear her sing a medley of songs and would buy a cd if she made one - and I NEVER buy
cd's or music.
