Thank You, President Obama, for High Speed Rail
He's at Transportation today with LaHood and Biden and they just announced a major investment in high speed rail.

I am VERY happy about this.

2. He read my email!
I'm kidding, but I couldn't be more thrilled. He's like my dream President most days. I've been wanting this for a long time.

3. At any speed, this is great!
This is some real progress, since the level of US rail service has been permanently stuck somewhere between Bolivia's and Bulgaria's. Time to come up in the world, eh?

HSR is a bonus, especially in some of the dense metro corridors, but if we can get to more cities by rail at even highway speeds, it'll be SO civilized!

We need to build out more routes, and give Amtrak its own track on existing routes, so passenger trains don't have to pull over for the freight carriers that actually own the track.

6. This is wonderful news.
My feeling has always been that even a mention from the White House about serious rail development will enable the political will and cultural shift that we need for rail and multi-modal systems.
