We paid taxes yesterday and didn't like it.

Hummmmmm, our children paying taxes and not liking it is pretty much a given.

Can anyone tell me the what is going to happen when our great grandchildren have to pay taxes? I don't think they will like them either, but they will pay them.

Quit whining and pay your F N taxes.

1. taxes pay for things that the city, state and country need or have to take
care of. No issue there for me.

2. I agree. But also find it incredible that we are defending the point.

Maybe there is a major re-alignment going on?

3. Some of those generations did not have the burden of a federal
income tax. They did not support the unwieldy Internal Revenue Service. I do not mind at all paying such things as property tax, local taxes for various things such as medicare, medicaid, schools, police, libraries, etc. - items for the common good.

I do not appreciate the waste and abuse by lawmakers who are feathering their own nests, riding around in taxpayer provided automobiles - usually SUV type - while telling me I should conserve.

If I were to protest, and I did not, that is what I'd protest.

An example that Miz O and I talked about this morning when we went for a sausage biscuit was Octomom. It's ok, maybe even good, if the 14 kids were to be removed from that home (?) and be supported by taxpayers. I just don't think any of the money involved should be filtered through the greedy little Octofingers. Give the kids, and the money, to someone who really wants them.

8. Generally, I find the Federal Government more effective, competent, and trustworthy
than state and local variations.

Fletcher made Bush look like Eisenhower and Clinton the rebirth of FDR. Or Mitch McConnell as Judge/Executive! Blah, local government is a crapshoot. Reps and Senators focused on their "real jobs" and personal drama, going to the capital to spout off recycled talking points and to look foolish for a few weeks.

Then you have power tripping Aldermen and city council reps, getting into government as a tool to control individual behavior and curing pet peeves rather than to serve the communities that they fail epically to represent, for the most part. Crusading on issues without community interest or a vote. As far as I can see these positions attract authoritarian types of all political stripes.

Nope, no thanks to local control. That shit only works with a solid majority of sane folk in the electorate and capable people representing them. States rights my ass, most states are a cess-pool clusterfuck kept at bay by the Feds, sad as that may be.

4. Two things are certain...taxes, and complaining about taxes
Want to make a populist statement? Complain about taxes.

The only things that rival the predictabilty of tax complaints are complaints about Catholic School Nuns, Jewish mothers-in-law, and welfare cheats.

5. Does that really say that much though?
Yeah, everyone still pays them, but only because there is a penalty for not paying them. Take away the penalty for not paying the taxes that nobody likes to pay, and if everyone still pays them, then you've got something. Then you might have a culture worth paying for. Then you might have a society worth the effort. That would be an opt-in society. You would want to be, you would choose to be, part of that society. As opposed to today, where everyone is given less and less of an alternative to the dominant society, whether it works for them or not.

6. I don't like paying taxes either
I don't want to pay any more taxes than are necessary, but I will pay the taxes that help to promote the general welfare in this country. The taxes I will pay bitterly are those which will pay for Bu$h's trillion-dollar fiasco in Iraq. For less than that, we could have had single-payer universal healthcare like most other civilised countries. But, no, douchebag and co. had to invade a country that had nothing to do with 9-11 for fun and profit. I will never forgive them for that. :grr:

7. This may sound nuts, but I don't not like paying taxes.
Double negatives aside, I'm always happy to do my part.
