Tom DeLay is claiming that Texas is a donor state, and only gets
back 70% of what it contributes to the fed. govt.

I've seen other stats that say otherwise. Anyone have a recent report link?

What is funny is that most of the reddest of the red states get more money than they pay...

18. LOL! I'm ashamed to say, but CA has it's share of backward GOP pols.
On balance, I think we might come out on top when you consider some of the movies/television shows/music/writers/artists, etc. that have come from California.

But, only slightly when you consider the cults and sociopathic (?) politicans/presidents that have originated from California.

13. A false chart
That chart measures federal spending which has nothing to do with what the population receives. Western states have more because the federal government owns most of the West and spends money on maintenance of land, facilities and personnel. Of course you left off DC which receives almost 10$ for every 1$ it puts in. Funny how everyone forgets about that. Doesn't fit into with their theory.

17. If the federal government would give up the land like they did in the blue states
The red states would pay far more. Why the double standard?

5. He's also claiming that Texas could split into several states
Which was technically true according to the original treaty when they joined the Union, but not very likely now.
http://www.snopes.com/history/american/texas.asp

According to my husband any right they had to secede or split was voided when they seceded in 1861 and was not re-affirmed when they re-joined the Union after the Civil War. But he's no legal scholar, just a history buff.
