What Was Tom Delay Eluding To On Hardball?........
First - why the hell is MSNBC and Tweety giving this criminal a forum to begin with?

But I thinking that they are up to something. Delay said something about some treaty that allows Texas to split into 5 states. He said that Congress or the Obama Administration would not let them get 10 more Senators - so they will throw Texas out of the Union.

Is this some clever plan that they are hatching that they are trying to trap the Obama Administration in. Hear me out. First - you have the Governor of Texas run around calling for Texas to secede from the Union. You have the Cable News Networks, the Dem Talking Heads, the Dems in Congress and the Obama Administration themselves - saying how idiotic this idea is and say Texas can't do that.

Then the Repugs - (I think Texas is primarily a Red State) - invoke this treaty or whatever Delay was talking about - that allows them to break into 5 states and have 2 Senators from each state (if this is even true - but it sounds like Delay researched this out before he appeared on Hardball so there might be some credibility surrounding it - we need to research this). Doing this to goad Congress, the Dems, the Obama Administration say - they can't have this - and then throw them out of the Union - or at least threaten that.

Then it looks like the Obama Administration is talking out of both sides of their mouth.

Now I don't think that this could happen - but Delay was insinuating something on Hardball that Tweety didn't pick up on or ask any follow-up questions.

I think I will try to take in the re-run of Hardball tonight to see if I can decipher what Delay was eluding to.

Did anybody else catch this?

no offense taken.

The one that usually gets me - I see a lot of people using 'noone' instead of 'no one'. Now I haven't been in school for more years than I'd like to remember - but that can't be right - huh?

2. Why are you taking what the windbag says seriously?
Just because Tweety gives him a perch to squawk doesn't mean you have to buy into it.

4. Under the original treaty when Texas joined the USA
It could divide into five states. http://www.snopes.com/history/american/texas.asp

BUT since Texas seceded to become part of the Confederate States and was essentially conquered by the US, I am not sure that the original agreement could be used. Read the Snopes page - good info there.

5. The position taken by Presidents Lincoln and Johnson . . .
. . . was that the states had no right to secede, and therefore did not.

18. Yes - and the Snopes article says there was NO provision when Texas joined the Union
For Texas to secede if it wished.

And my husband made a good point - even if there had been that provision, Texas used up its one chance to secede in 1861 and it LOST. Too bad, Texas! Since the end of the Civil War, you are conquered territory just like the rest of the South.

8. If Texas were to break into 5 states, it would be very difficult for all of them to remain red
The pugs might be able to gerrymander the state based on congressional districts, but if Texas were to break into individual states, it would be much more difficult. They obviously wouldn't break up large cities like Dallas, Houston, San Antonio which are quite blue. The panhandle would certainly be able to stay red, but the other areas would be extremely difficult. The rural areas of Texas would become politically irrelevant and that's really the only reason why Texas remains red anyway.

Don't blame Toxic Tom. He's a toxoholic. He has a brain long-pickled by roach poison. A man who can kill roaches in roach-infested Houston (I lived there six years) can get elected to almost any office in the land .. their land.

16. The right to split into five states ended when Texas seceded in 1861
They abrogated that right by illegally seceding. It no longer exists.

The secession was illegal, and did not legally happen.

21. I like this idea
Across the board, across the US.

We need more representatives. Some states, like Calif. have 1 senator for 17 million people and others like Montana, 1 senator for 1 million. Montana rules!

That points to a lack of equal representation and that lack is why this country is in such bad shape.

It is a radical idea, but it is an idea whose time has come.

23. I heard the best response on Ed Schultz today
The guy said that if they make a separate country, their football teams couldn't play in the US leagues. He said that would stop all talk of a secession. As far as I'm concerned, they can have their own country after Bushy as pres.
