4. The dress is a nice fabric--she probably didn't want to ruin it. She's unemployed after all.
What's with the 'sarcasm?'

I'm not taking your point.

5. Do you know the story/plot-line of Les Miserables?
Do you know what 24601 refers to?

Do a little research/expand your horizons ... and then "check back" here.

It's all good.

Peace,

6. Come on, you want to be a bit didactic, I can tell--why don't you just help me out
and tell me? Be a sport....you'll have the added advantage of elucidating others here who might have wondered why you were being somewhat snarky.

7. Didactic is not a word within my "working vocabulary".....
SO, I had to look it up and found:

didactic
One entry found.

Main Entry: di·dac·tic

2: making moral observations
— di·dac·ti·cal \-ti-kəl\ adjective

it's the prisoner number of the story's hero. I don't know why the other guy is in such a nasty mood and couldn't give you a one sentence answer (even though he took the time to look up the meaning of another word and post that). People have been particularly nasty here lately, it could be stress? I know I've been in a particularly bad mood lately (mostly due to stress). My sister dragged me off the the Dr last week and he prescribed me some happy pills. I feel much better and nicer now.

14. Thank you so much!
I know what you mean--I guess we all could use some happy pills!

You'd think we'd be overjoyed--we've got the House, the Senate and the WH. Of course, the bad economy has put a load on a lot of people--we've got three in my extended family out of work, and one who had his hours cut. Things are tough all over.

17. Yeah but..
43212 isn't 24601 any more than some other random 5 digit number - so how was anyone supposed to get a connection existing only in the OP's head.

43212 is a sly and clever reference to 90210. She wants to go to Hollywood. It's secret code. OMG you are SO smart!!!

18. ehm, the only 'attention' I seem to be getting is from 'you'
and you're now on my very very short (party of 1 - that would be YOU) Ignore list.

Good nite.

Thanks for all the kicks. Hope some people watched the "recommended" long version of Les Miserables at youtube.com, et al if they've never had the opportunity to see it before! It's quite the wonderful experience. :-)

21. Why does a contestant on "Britain's Got Talent" need a 'number'?
Isn't Susan Boyle on the April 11, 2009 episode easy enough to keep track of?

Numbering humans is very "de-humanizing". We humans all have 'given names' ..... not numbers. I resent being referred to by 'number'.

That's not the "greatly reviled" 'conspiracy talk'.

If you like all of this number stuff....let's see....I forgot just now how to do it......but "and-justice-for-all" has been/is assigned a DU 'number'. If you believe in this numbering thing so much, just ask Skinner, et al, what your DU "number" is and than I think you should go by that 'handle' from now on. Is that okay with you? Please let us know what your new name/number is.

TIA

26. No, "Susan Boyle on the April 11, 2009" wouldn't be easy
It would have been recorded before that date. When recorded, they quite possibly didn't know which episode it would go out in - if it would go out at all. They don't show everyone who auditions. The number is a lot shorter. It may have a significance that helps administratively (eg 'audition 43, contestant 212' - like a house number '1412' may, in the USA, mean '14th block, 12th house in that block - while in Britain, it'd mean '1412th house on that road').

Tell me, have you ever watched athletics?
