...they earn a little bit of money and raise themselves into the lower middle-class demographic...laudable but hardly wealthy...

...and the next thing you know, they get this crazy idea that because they're not those lazy inner-city minorities Rush always talks about, they've MADE IT! They're practically Rockefellers, and that means the government is gonna come for THEM! For THEIR money!

Yes, Joe the Plumber Jr., you're going to crack that top 5% any day now, you betcha. :eyes:

3. Raise the taxes a little and you would think they were being robbed
at gun point.

The wealth, those who make over 200K a year, are not going to go hungry. I hate seeing those poor bastards out doing the Riches dirty work, it is fucking sad.

4. And Obama DIDN'T raise taxes on them! He CUT their taxes!
He can afford to raise taxes on the top 5% because the disparity between middle-class and wealthy has never been higher in ANY country on Earth.

Rich Americans are staggeringly, OBSCENELY wealthy. Do you think Bill Gates and his ilk REALLY mind not being able to afford a third voice-activated robot butler this year?

5. Those EITC folks exist because it sucks at the bottom.
He wants to grudge the poorest but most likely hardest working people? Okay, go ahead.

You could tell me a woman with a couple kids of her own who has taken in a few or a quartet more all under seven isn't working her ass off (although it sounds like it to me), or you tell me a person cutting lawns, painting houses, railings, doors, or whatever he can catch, isn't scrambling (although that also sounds like hard work). Yeah, I'll confess there might be some people coasting on the poor-train, and picking up benefits for their not/working. But for the most part, broke people work. They work two jobs, or three or four in a year. And they'll still be broke. But too many will still think J the P is legit. And they can be rich, too.

6. In their mind, those people you mention above are considered "Working Class" or "Blue Collar"...
...when you say "Poor," they immediately imagine those Cadillac-driving Wellfare Queens in Detroit that Ronny Reagan was always going on about.

The noble, hard-working proletariat are always white; the lazy-ass bums sucking us dry are always minorities. That's the conservative perception of poverty in a nutshell...

Except a minority family is now in the White House--no WONDER they're all freaking out about higher taxes THAT DON'T EVEN EXIST!! x(

8. Well said, Bicoastal.
Yup, the taxes they are freaking out about don't even exist. It is like a mass hysteria. Like War of the Worlds, or something.
