My LTTE got published!
(This is the massively condensed version. I was home sick and boy was I cranky. The first version wasn't nearly as polite).

Where were all of these protesters in 2003 when, against all advice from foreign intelligence services and weapons inspections teams, the U.S. invaded a sovereign nation that had nothing to do with attacking us? As of 2008, we were spending $12 billion dollars a month in Iraq.

The reason that President Obama’s budget seems so out of whack compared with the previous administration is that the cost of the Iraq war was not included in regular budgets previously. It was always put in as “supplemental,” so the published budget didn’t seem as bad as it actually was until war spending was put back in under Obama.

That is $12 billion per month times six years and counting...

I haven't read the responses yet- this is a basically red area so I can only imagine. http://blogs.kansascity.com/unfettered_letters/

1. Nicely written...what they won't admit is that they are angry...
because they got asses whipped in the election by a black man.

2. Congratulations!
That's a very good point about the spending and how repugs seem oblivious to the costs of war during *'s time in office. Now just be prepared to have your mailbox stuffed with anonymous letters with bible verses and long winded rants.

3. That is something that cannot be said often enough.
I will say it to everyone I can and everywhere I can and I'll to try to boil it down to a street sign.

6. Great letter. Rec'd.

"Where were all of these protesters in 2003 when, against all advice from foreign intelligence services and weapons inspections teams, the U.S. invaded a sovereign nation that had nothing to do with attacking us?"

That's what I'd like to know!

7. thanks for the rec!
I suspect at least a small part of it is the lack of media attention to that aspect of the story. My original rant actually went off on that too but something had to go.

8. Didn't Obama just put in an $86 billion supplemental spending bill for Iraq and Afghanistan?

10. unfortunately yes
and his previously stated opposition (2007)to supplemental spending had to do with the fact that there was no timeline whatsoever for withdrawal of troops. In theory, at least, I think this administration has a plan to eventually get us out. I hope. I know, the whole thing stinks to high heaven but it all goes back to the fact that We. Don't. Belong. There.

9. Great letter!
Congrats on getting it published. The teabaggers won't 'get' it but most who read it will. It is letters like this that are causing the number of people declaring themselves to be Republicans to plummet, imo. Good work!
