Teen charged in robbery after parents turn him in
A teen turned in to police by his parents is being held in juvenile detention for his alleged involvement in the robbery of a southeast Salem Taco Bell on Tuesday.

The parents of the 17-year-old brought their son to the Salem Police Department on Wednesday evening "after they learned he was responsible for the robbery," said Lt. Steve Birr, who leads the department's criminal-investigations section.

.....

The teen was taken to detention and charged with first-degree robbery, menacing and unlawful use of a weapon, Birr said.

Birr said the teen is not thought to have been involved in two other robberies reported at the same location in June and July 2007.

Kudos to these parents. Wonder if the brat has been in trouble before
and they are fed up?

1. If my mother knew I was involved in a robbery she, too, would march me down to the police
as would my husbands parents...this must be a new phenomenon...since most parents do now ABIDE illegal activity by kids (except maybe smoking a joint or two)

2. Most parents, huh?
Let me guess, you also think 90% of Halloween candy is filled with rat poison?

3. Yes! Not only would my parents
take me to the police station, none of us kids would have even dreamed
of doing something like this. We'd be grounded for years.

You are correct....pot or condoms or birth control pills - today's
parents have a fit.

The criminal activities of boys and girls, parents and so-called
experts say are just young, brains not fully developed etc

Hello? By the age of 8, they know the difference between
right and wrong.

I am so glad we don't have kids.

4. i like. my 2 nephews ran away, stole a truck, credit cards and
dad has been able to talk judge out of action. like he was able to talk walmart out of action when the youngest at 14 a couple months ago tried to steal over 800 dollars in merchandise from walmart.

i am sooooo mad. for years i have been saying his inaction as a parent was poor parenting choices and with this last stunt, i cannot believe the kids are getting away with it ... again

so yes, i like what these parents did

5. my mother would have marched me into walmart to return the ill gotten gains
and testified AGAINST me in court...my husbands parents would have made it very difficult for him to even be walking when his court day convened!
