Now is the Time: DEMAND Not-For-Profit Health Care!

TAKE ACTION NOW: Before Wednesday, April 22

House Ways and Means Chairman Charles B. Rangel (D-NY) announced that the Committee will hold another hearing in a series on reforming the health insurance market.

The hearing will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, and will focus on strategies to reform the health insurance market to ensure greater accessibility and affordability
Healthcare-NOW! and allied organizations have been requesting fair hearings that include the single-payer

Help us make sure that Chairman Rangel hears us loud and clear. Call his office now (toll free at 866-338-1015) to request they invite expert single-payer witnesses to testify.

If you can't call, you can easily email him here.
https://forms.house.gov/rangel/forms/contact.shtml

To date, single-payer is the only reform that will cover everyone and contain healthcare costs. Anything less will not achieve these goals.

P.S. Call-ins like this work. That's how we got 74 cosponsors for HR 676 so far in this Congress.
(so while you are at it, you might call/email your Congressman as well https://writerep.house.gov/writerep/welcome.shtml)

2. excellent-thank you!
I prefer to think that Obama wants this just as much as we do, he just needs a push in the right direction. The insurance industry needs to be told NO, your 'legacy' is over.

4. I contacted my congressman about this
and he wants everyone's suggestions on healthcare (he wrote the SCHIP bill)

www.pallonefornewjersey.com is the website, and there's a section to send him your suggestions. I told him to cosponsor HR676 and that if he did not only would I campaign for him but I'd financially support his campaign.

5. Oh I love that!
"I told him to cosponsor HR676 and that if he did not only would I campaign for him but I'd financially support his campaign."

We should all tell them that.

6. my letter's in this thread
and I think he's open for suggestions from people outside NJ-6. I already did campaign for him in the fall (ok he was riding Obama's coattails), and I'd be happy to do so financially (especially since 2010 will be much better for me financially) if he would listen to my ideas.

:pals:

I am convinced that this is the most important issue for the American people, not pirates, not the war on terror, but the fact that people are terrorized when they become sick in this country. Stress is a major factor in many illnesses, then when you get sick, you are even more stressed because you might lose your house to pay for it. How is anyone supposed to get better under those circumstances?

14. To think of 47 to 89 million
on any given day to be in this situation should be saddening and maddening all of us to a huge degree and spurring us to action. Another du'er blindpig concurs with you here:

11. Anyone else see this? "Top ten Enemies of Single Payer"
Interesting article from Commondreams. A lot of opposition in surprising places. Obama doesn't want single-payer either. I don't see it happening.

12. There are more of us than there are of them!
The least they could do after handing out all the money to the already super rich, is spend a little money taking care of the rest of US.

WE pay the taxes. These people work for US and it is time they understood that.

13. 100,000 people die each year!
What the hell are we doing wasting money attacking other countries because 3,000 people died 8 years ago!!
:grr:

"The most credible estimate of the number of people in the United States who have died because of lack of medical care was provided by a study carried out by Professors David Himmelstein and Steffie Woolhandler (New England Journal of Medicine 336, no. 11 <1997>). They concluded that almost 100,000 people died in the United States each year because of lack of needed care"

15. Single-Payer FAQ
* Is national health insurance ‘socialized medicine’?

* Won’t this result in rationing like in Canada?

* Who will run the health care system?

* What about medical research?

* Won’t this just be another bureaucracy?

* How will we keep costs down if everyone has access to comprehensive health care?

* How will we keep doctors from doing too many procedures?

* What will happen to physician incomes?

* How will we keep drug prices under control?

* Why shouldn’t we let people buy better health care if they can afford it?

* What will be covered?

* What about alternative care, will it be covered?
