A small action to advance the cause of torture prosecutions

I don't know if it will do any good. Still - I have to try.


I'm going to write some letters. In those letters I am going to include articles, statements, and various other documentation as to why I think America's war criminals need to be prosecuted. I'm going to ask to be heard.

I will be sending a letter to my representatives.

I am writing to you regarding the torture memos that were just released. We've been reading these stories for years, and I didn't think it was possible for new information to phase me one way or another, but I was wrong. These memos reveal a cunning, devious, intricate legal finding to allow a nation to wholly act with brutality and disregard for any human life. The controlled, specific directions to provide the thinnest thread of legal cover for what the whole world considers torture is mind bending. It's one thing to torture. It's quite another to legalize it in such minute detail. I have no idea how to make this right. But I do know that some action is necessary. It is impossible to look away. The totality of the destruction to our country and from our country can not be reconciled in any way. There isn't enough rationalization in the world. Believe me I've tried. Past empires have behaved with human cruelty and depravity, and they all suffered their fates. I believe we will too. I just wish there were some way to at least have our government appear to care, appear to have a conscious. I hope that you and your colleagues can find some way to act. Do anything, but do something. Thank you.

I would write them and tell them how unhappy I am with whatever Bush was doing. They would just respond back at how smitten they were with the president and acted like they were a bunch of lap dogs.Now when I write them to support Obama and what he is doing they tell me how they don't agree with what he is doing.It is so annoying.

25. Like you, I keep signing petitions, telling congress persons why I'm withholding donations,

digging articles that demand a special prosecutor for torture cases, etc. etc.

The reality is that our lawmakers are above the law. There's nothing new about that and apparently it's not going to change under Obama either. Which means that this crisis of confidence that is threatening to plunge us into a economic global depression is spiraling further out of control.

This overpowering sense of helplessness swallows me up -- and then I emerge again, signing petitions, lobbying congress persons, etc., etc., etc.

30. This is exaclty what is needed. Holder said,

before he takes an action, he looks at two points:

1-Will it stand up Constitutional scrutiny.

2-Will it stand up to scrutiny from the American People.

He is working on the legal side of it, diligently. We have to let him and Obama know that We not only support it, bu DEMAND it!
