It Hit 102º in SoCal Today
Went to Disneyland with the kids today. Got there at opening (8am) and left at 1pm because it was just too damn hot. 102º as we were driving home on the 5.

Went to the beach for a couple of hours (Salt Creek) where it was much cooler. It was 94º when we got there at 2:15, 84º when we left at 4:15.

Heat waves are starting early this year!

2. It snowed here in NM on Saturday morning.
So of course it's going to get hot and stay hot now until the end of September.

The desert gods throw the switch about the end of every April. If we're lucky, we get a week or so of temperatures in the mid 80s before it goes to the mid 90s and stays there.

I have to set up the swamp cooler tomorrow, I guess.

3. It was hot here in Nor Cal, too
High 80s by my house which is nearly on the SF Bay. A few days ago we were in the mountains and it snowed. Go figure.

I don't do heat well at all. I hope it doesn't get much hotter than this during the summer. We usually have a lot of fog in the summer so it will be interesting to see what happens this year.

14. the fan was going on here
in sacramento today, so it's starting to climb. it does this for about 6 weeks during spring.

i don't do heat well either, so when it gets 90+, i am usually in an AC room.

6. Were you going by a car thermometer or bank on the road or what?
I just know that when my car has been sitting on asphalt for a while it will register a higher temperature than it really is, once I get outta there the temp gradually adjusts. But still, sounds incredibly hot for Disneyland. I practically grew up there.

9. The prediction was for 96º today. Having lived in Vegas for a couple of years
Edited on Sun Apr-19-09 11:34 PM by stopbush
I can tell when it's over 100º. The outside temp on the car thermometer was 97º when we left D-land. 10 minutes later on the 5, we hit 102º. The thermometer in my car is really pretty accurate. It tends to jibe with the thermometer readings we see on banks and also with what they're reporting on the radio.

There was a hot wind blowing thru D-land today. I've never experienced that before as we tend to avoid the place in July & August - too many tourists. The SoCal Resident annual pass blocks out most of the summer. As you know, Anaheim is well away from the shore and the coastal breeze rarely makes it that far inland.

11. I was in Long Beach today and it was sweltering. Plus, I just
had to move to Studio City (in the Valley which is one of the hottest areas in SoCal. It was so hot last year my concern is that we're in for another one and it's already starting!

20. Really? The beaches in south OC are quite nice, and I
don't recall hearing of any pollution warnings.

But then, I've only live here for a little over a year.

i was born and raised in the OC, and i'm 53. it USED to be nice, but the water has gotten progressively more polluted over the years. many of the beaches in SoCal have runoffs near them, with sewage, etc. the last time i went into the water (about 5 years ago), i had a burning sensation on my skin that had never happened before. i won't go in the water again! YMMV

27. I'm 54, but I was raised in Ohio along Lake Erie (or, Eerie, if you prefer)
and that is one body of water that is quite frightening in its pollution. Where do you think the Simpsons got the idea for three-eyed fish?

BTW - there is a really bad sewer/sulfur smell in South Laguna Beach these days. They had a sewer line that broke last year, but it was supposedly fixed. I can't imagine owning a multi-million-dollar mansion along there and dealing with a sewer smell 24/7.

17. Strange, I am in Foothill Ranch
Didn't get that hot, never made it over 90, but the attic fan kicked on early, and I needed to run the house fan two nights in a row. My big issue is the bugs, never remember this many flying bugs before. I also don't remember a 40 degree variance, we have a high of 92 and a low of 52 tomorrow.

I was inside for most of the day but I went out and stood in the driveway for a few minutes and could hardly bear it.

Orange County broke 51 year old records today! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30298768/

24. Would that be Fahrenheit, Celsius or Kelvin?
If Fahrenheit, that is a hot summer day.

If Celsius, you're boiling.

If Kelvin, it's frickin cold!
