Twitter or more useless blather
who gives a damn?

we live in a totally self absorbed society. I find that the few that twitter now are on the far end of the bell curve of self indulgence.
what is so freaking important in their lives that I must know every single moment of their happenings? "I'm drinking a latte'", "I don't care for what so and so said", "is it important to really care about the children?"

good. fucking. god.

What has happen to us? do we now have so much free time that we don't know what to do with that we have to fill it up with inane insights?

or more likely,

Do we have this overwhelmed feeling (not overwhelming) to be on top of the latest bullshit in fear that we might miss something? Miss what, exactly? Miss some half-witted boobs attempt at being witty or insightful?

or do we fear time to contemplate our lives? To reflect on just how fucked up it is that we have become obsessed with filling each and every waking moment with something to fill the void of silence?

We have become a society void of day dreamers. Time once occupied by gazing out the window and imagining the unimaginable is now replace with head down, eyes glued to screen and thumbs gone wild. And when that is not happening, the obsessive checking and rechecking for a response.

oh fuck it. here we are and here is were we are going to stay. Short attention span 140 character theater.

Here's a thought: if we as a society have a massive blackout, the cell phone towers only have enough juice in their battery back ups for, at most, 3 days. If the black outs stretch beyond 3 days, that's when the withdrawals start and the riots begin.

I weep for our future on so many levels.

1. This OP is a good example of the kind of thing on Twitter.

Except on Twitter, opinions on matters are just more pithy.

17. +1. At least on twitter his rant would only be 140 characters long.

3. Good point. Twitter is the *hot* thing" now - what will be next?
Its ok for kids and Gen Y'rs and such but actual grown up's who babble on about "twitting" and "tweeting" sound ridiculous.

Oh, write a damn letter and get over yourself.

5. Rachel Maddow's comments are usually pretty good, as are David Shuster's.
Not sure I'd want to read what teens are saying on it anyway.

8. LOL! At least twitterers have learned to be concise, unlike many anti-twitterers.

12. I just don't understand the animosity
Are these the same rants that the oldsters leveled agains the telegraph, then the telephone, then the internet...

Just like I don't give a damn about 99.9% of the stuff on the internet, I don't give a damn about 99.9% of the stuff on Twitter. Just like the rest of the internet, I choose to stay focused on the things that I do like. A handful of message boards, some topical web sites of interest to me, E-mail and, of course, the p0rn.

All these Twitter rants have one thing in common...the ranter acts as if they're being forced to sit in front of a computer screen and listen to the banter of some random teenagers or "self-absorbed" person who has the audacity to post something mundane. All the while ignoring the fact that there are probably Twitter feeds they'd be intersted in if they'd look for them, or, barring that, doing what the vast majority of people do...ignore it.

Remember how comic books and rock n' roll were supposed to signal the end of civilization?

14. Yup, I remember
You know how it is...people gotta have something to shake their fist at.

I remember other people in the IT field telling me how that stupid Google would never catch on...

18. That pony express is never going to catch on.
Why would people want to deliver something handwritten? Why not just actually communicate face-to-face with someone if you want to let them know something.

15. Who gives a damn? Apparently you do, since you posted
a lenghty screed against something you are not required to use.

Don't like Twitter? Neither do I. My way of expressing that is not to use it.
