I just got an unsolicited propaganda call from the NRA
"Obama and the Democrats are going to take your guns" blah blah, fucking blah. Same old bullshit, different year.

I'm on the national do not call list so I believe they just broke the law. Any advice how I should escalate this?

1. "do not call" list doesn't cover politics.
"Any advice how I should escalate this?"

Why would you want to?

5. Does the DNCL include RW propaganda organizations?
I highly doubt that.

7. It was not a political call. It was a RW propaganda call.

14. It was a call from the NRA they are allowed to call

If I register my number on the National Do Not Call Registry, will it stop all telemarketing calls?

No. Placing your number on the National Do Not Call Registry will stop most telemarketing calls, but not all. Because of limitations in the jurisdiction of the FTC and FCC, calls from or on behalf of political organizations, charities, and telephone surveyors would still be permitted, as would calls from companies with which you have an existing business relationship, or those to whom you’ve provided express agreement in writing to receive their calls.

Are calls from political organizations or calls soliciting for charities covered?

Political solicitations are not covered by the TSR at all, since they are not included in its definition of “telemarketing.” Charities are not covered by the requirements of the national registry. However, if a third-party telemarketer is calling on behalf of a charity, a consumer may ask not to receive any more calls from, or on behalf of, that specific charity. If a third-party telemarketer calls again on behalf of that charity, the telemarketer may be subject to a fine of up to $11,000.

Tell them to please remove you from their phone list if they call again.

15. Those are not allowed.
Those are telemarketers, so they shouldn't be calling, UNLESS you've done business with them in the past then they are allowed to call (but then you need to tell them to remove you from their lists).

3. Political calls are allowed
But if you tell them to take you off the list and they call again, you may have grounds to go after them.

6. I probably should have done that, instead I told the lady to quit lying for her company.
She hung up.

9. I got a call at 1:41 in the morning 2 or 3 days ago. Scared the bejeezus out of me.
Edited on Mon Apr-20-09 01:32 PM by lamp_shade
The voice asked "Who's this?" Stoopid me said "This is Pam". The voice said "Are you white or black?" (exact words). I hung up. The voice had a slight foreign accent. I sat there staring at the dark for a few minutes thinking what the hell was that. I forgot all about it until just now reading your post. That was a first for me and, no, I wasn't dreaming (caller ID record says Private Caller, no phone#).

12. * pouts* I NEVER get the fun unsolicited calls!!
Getting into it with a rep from the NRA would have been more fun than eating an ice cream cone on a hot day.

Day-um. Why would you want to take your name off any future calls/fun with that group? Especially if their meme of the day is "Obama's gonna take your guns?" I am seriously jealous.

16. My daughter got one and the caller got so mad, he hung up on her.
She had a cold and her voice was in the cellar. They wanted to talk to her husband, who works third shift and was in bed, so she pretended to be him. The guy kept asking if she was truly a male and she said she was. He got furious when she told him she'd voted for Obama and she agreed with whatever law they said he wanted to pass. He again accused her of being a female, then hung up. She got the impression he really thought she was gay and that's truly why he hung up.
