Ah on head injuries... and seeing a doctor
well last thursday while visiting mexico I did a nice face plant. On the bright side, did not take my nephew with me...

Trust me, you do not bounce on concrete

:-)

We went home after going to the museum with the kids and got ice and iced both knee and forehead.

I also told family if the following start appearing, we go to the ER... usual signs, vomiting, headache (not the mild one I got for an hour or so, but a really bad one), nausea, not being able to wake up, not responding to commands, weakness on one side... the usual... I also kept checking my BP and other vitals for about five hours after the incident, on the hour.

Fortunately none of those appeared. I STILL went to the doctor this morning

And if anything I have been hungrier, darn cute intuitive eating...

Apparently I did a number on my nose, but not enough to even warrant an x-ray.

No, the doc did not read me the riot act, and in fact was happy I was able to self monitor while on a foreign trip and knew enough to tell family the following appears we are going to the local ER whether I want it or not (changes in personality)

But boy, I did get orders to take it easy... concussion... and since there is no sign I broke anything no needed x-ray. Remember, it's been a few days.

I also know that if we went to the ER during the weekend with defensive medicine they probably would have done those.

It wasn't trying to save anybody any cash... just that 48 hours after nice face plant....

Of course if you look at my face it looks like something serious happened (and it did) apparently I managed to get my nose... which is slightly swollen, but not broken, where all the crazy raccoon's eyes are coming from... which was the other reason I needed to see a doctor this morning...

So if you ring your bell go see the doctor, fer your peace of mind...

And yes, I know how lucky I am...

3. Oh, nadinbrzezinski, you are in my thoughts
Head injuries are serious, and I hope nothing terrible happens as a result of your incident.

You are giving good advice, though.

Please be careful, just in case. Sometimes those later effects can sneak up on you.

I have a ridiculous nose and raccoon eyes, and I never even hit my head--I'll trade you mine for yours..lol

Be well, and thanks for sharing your experience.

I'm jealous. You get to some exciting places. Here I am, trapped in the desert.

6. I have been self monitoring for the last five days or so
and beyond the very localized head ache, right by the bump, nothing

The doc was actually surprised, wasn't my regular doc, until I told her I used to be a medic...

She said she wished most of her patients knew enough... I also said that if this happened here... I'd have gone to the ER...

For many reasons I didn't... stupid, yes, didn't want to worry my 85 year old dad and 79 year old mom...

9. Well, nadinbrzezinski, you are one of the most brilliant people I know here, so
I trust you to make good decisions about your health.

But if anything happened to you many of your fans here would be devastated.

You promise me to take care of yourself. If you get any weird symptoms like numbness, tingling, loss of muscle tone on one side of your face (you probably know all this), vision problems, please make sure to get completely checked out.

You are one of DU's Treasures.

Thinking of you,
Mike

4. Never mind that you aren't Natasha Richardson this time.
You did right to go to the doctor.

Black eyes fade. But take pictures of their interesting and colorful stages.

And report back here every two hours.

7. They will go away, after becoming all the way from red to mauve
no need for eye shadow, to green to gray

They get cute....

And I went to go see the doctor since I went.... or my mind went... basilar fracture... basilar fracture... not good.

I didn't know you could get those from doing a number on your nose though....

A far less serious side effect

10. I got three, count 'em, three head injuries
living with my schizophrenic ex and had to wait until my head cleared to get seen because no one around me seemed to be on the ball, let alone Doug. I should kiss the ground every day, seriously.

Eat a lot of ice cream and be sure to follow up if anything turns up.

16. Hope you feel better.
I'm glad you saw the doctor after seeing the "raccoon eyes" even with the nose injury that was a good idea. Good advice all the way around.

David
