Military Medicine: A peek behind the curtain
A friend of mine who is still on active duty with the USAF told me of this site - http://www.medicalcorpse.com/index1.html - when I ran into him at a recent meeting. The site gives the perspective of a truly heroic doctor who walked away, at great cost to himself in cash, benefits, friends, and security because of both the sad state of USAF medicine and because of the immense pressure within the USAF to force everyone into becoming an evangelical christian warrior of god.

Turns out that I also know the website's author. Not well, and only briefly professionally, but I do know that he is a very competent and caring physician. He is also pretty smart (Harvard Cum Laude), patriotic, and 'a little funny'(but then so am I).

Even if you are a vet, you will be shocked - especially by the push to cleanse the military in general (USAF in particular) - of godless non-evangelical christians. This has shown up occasionally in the MSM, but is much more institutionalized within the USAF than I had realized.

To my mind this once again supports Galbraith's thesis - expostulated in "How to Control the Military" - that the key to controlling the military (in order that it not destroy democracy) is to ensure, through the draft, that it remains a mixture of citizen-soldier and professional warrior. His arguments convinced me, and caused me to become a supporter of the draft. Reading over this website only confirms my belief that Galbraith is correct, the military needs to be composed of a wider cross-section of the population, or it will destroy us.

The price of freedom is not only eternal vigilance, but is also that of laying YOUR ass on the line for your country.

Visit http://www.medicalcorpse.com/index1.html you will see a small part of that which is meant to remain hidden.
