18. It cost her the title according to Perez Hilton who was a judge
Miss Calif: Gay marriage answer cost me Miss USA crown
http://www.newsday.com/iphone/ny-etmiss2112675670apr20,0,7238621.story

Miss California says candor cost her the crown in Sunday's Miss USA competition.

Carrie Prejean, 21, probably knew she was in trouble when she acknowledged her opposition to same-sex marriages in response to a question from openly gay judge Perez Hilton, the celebrity blogger.

"In my country, and in my family, I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman," Prejean replied. Later, she lost to Miss North Carolina.

"It did cost me my crown," Prejean said of her response, on Monday's "Billy Bush Show." "I wouldn't have had it any other way. I said what I feel. I stated an opinion that was true to myself and that's all I can do."

In an appearance Monday on MSNBC, Hilton said he was absolutely "shocked and incredibly frustrated and disappointed" with Prejean's stance.

"That's not the kind of woman I want to be Miss USA," he said. "Miss USA should represent all Americans and, with her answer, she instantly alienated millions of gays and lesbians and their friends."

Earlier, Hilton had said on his video blog he would have run onstage and ripped the tiara off Prejean's head had she won the title.

She lost the crown, but now she is the darling of the right.

I imagine that Fox news will be throwing lots of contracts and attention her way.

Kinda like Joe the lowlife plumber.

He had no shot of making $250,00 pretending to be a plumber, but now he is all over the media, with various engagements and is probably doing well financially now.

A bimbo, of course, but less mindless than a lot of her peers in the amateur tits-and-ass biz. At least she realized that she had to acknowledge that some people see the issue differently. She fumbled the answer, but I don't think she was on the shortlist as anyone's speechwriter.

she was at least apparently honest in stating her beliefs, and consequences be damned.

that deserves MORE respect than somebody who takes the same policy position as her, but does it for political reasons.

*if* obama truly believes in gay marriage, then he should advocate for it.

he already won for fuck's sake.

Before the gay marriage question she was talking about being a basketball player and said something like, "Yeah, it's so unusual."

Like no one would believe she plays basketball because she's either a.) too pretty or b.) not a lesbian.

I don't have the exact quote, but she's a right-wing nutzo for sure.

What if she had said up there "like President Obama, I am not a supporter of gay marriage." what would people have said then?

I also found it kind of weird how everyone was out to get the prop 8 donors, but convenietly forgot about the 52% of Californians who also supported prop 8, but just didn't give money. I never heard Tom Hanks talking shit about half of California either.

I support gay marriage, but seriously, there's stuff on this board that really pisses me off. Mainly how a beauty queen's opinion of gay marriage is suddenly more important than the president or vice president's view.

54. I found her to be "plastic" rather than "pretty".
She looks absolutely, completely phony and fake in the short clip I saw. Lipstick, teeth, makeup, everything looked like plastic to me, and not at all attractive. The Japanese are making robots that look more and more like people, whereas we are making people that look more and more like robots! Maybe we'll meet in the middle someplace.

When I first heard her answer on gay marriage, I thought "What was the purpose of such a question anyway? Why ask this girl that question?" Then I suddenly realized, that's not the issue! The fact is, the whole event was so stupid, contrived and phony from top to bottom that it really doesn't matter what they asked anyone.

Who watches these things anyway?

And of course her "controversy" is stealing the publicity from the actual winner!

Look, everyone can complain about her, but her views are not extremist or fringe. In fact, she seems to echo the views of the majority. So, why this is a big deal, I'm not sure.

If Perez was going to ask such a politically charged, personal question, he should have been ready for an answer that he wouldn't like.

Edited on Tue Apr-21-09 11:33 AM by Maven
The majority in NYS, for example, supports equal marriage according to a new poll.

Why are you here talking about "the majority" as if that makes it right? "The majority" in the 60s supported segregation (certainly in the south). Did that mean supporting segregation wasn't bigoted and wrong?

And Obama's position on this issue is, in fact, bigoted and discriminatory.

But yet there's a huge thread over what some bimbo beauty queen thinks (and she's not at all important in the long run)and no-one's even mentioning that the guy everyone happily elected feels the exact same. The hypocrisy is stunning.

"The majority in NYS, for example, supports equal marriage according to a new poll.

Why are you here talking about "the majority" as if that makes it right? "The majority" in the 60s supported segregation (certainly in the south). Did that mean supporting segregation wasn't bigoted and wrong?"

I'm not saying it makes it right. But it doesn't make it shocking either. So, why everyone is acting like she said something totally out there is beyond me.

Also, I was referring to the majority on a national level.

I'd be the first one to agree that Democrats ought to start calling out their own leaders on bigoted positions.

Edited on Tue Apr-21-09 11:42 AM by Reterr
Which is a problem with our nation. Views like this should be extremist and fringe.
I don't normally like to state something in such absolute terms, but this one is REALLY a no-brainer, like the evolution vs creationism debate.

Being against gay marriage is fucking stupid. It is completely idiotic to have to be PC about such stupid, stupid beliefs. Two gay people getting married is in no way the business of anyone else.

Don't like gay marriage? Don't have one...
Last I checked gay marriage advocates were not trying to get these "opposite marrying" types forcibly gay married. They are free to "opposite" marry other low IQ, fundamentalist bigots like themselves last I checked.

Rightly or wrongly, at present, they aren't. Even to the point no major democratic politician (with the exception of Kristen Gillibrand and a few others) will come out in support. So, why is what she is saying so contraversial?

And like I said, why are people so preoccupied with what some beauty queen has to say? Who cares? Or is she just an easier target than all the high profile democrats who don't support gay marriage? Or the 52% of Californians that voted for prop 8?

62. About as intelligent as the typical anti-gay marriage moron too
"Opposite marriage"...:eyes:. Wtf is opposite marriage?

I suppose I have to give her props for coming up with something so uniquely moronic and special. I had never heard of "opposite marriage" before...

78. You could say the same for Obama
In fact, every insult thrown at her in this thread, could apply to almost every major democrat (with a few exceptions.) So, why people keep villifying her is beyond me because she feels the same way guys like Biden and Obama do.

I'm sorry, and I'm not out to get anyone, but it's ridiculous that people are still making a big deal out of one (not very bright) woman's comments. Do I agree with her? No. But does it make any difference to me how she feels? Not really. Unless, she runs for office one day, who cares?

90. Well she makes an easy target. As opposed to, let's say, Obama,
who doesn't support gay marriage either. But for whatever reason, Obama hasn't been called the same names this woman has been called.

79. Do you think that she could have saved herself if she had
said something like, "Even though I personally believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman, civil rights should not be denied to anyone and the decision to legalize gay marriage should be up to the states."

before or after he rated her ass as she paraded about in a bathing suit?

Perez Hilton - profiting from sexism while whining about homophobia - and too dull-witted to see the connections.
