Man, I got sooo tired after all the work last year. It was so fine to celebrate with the rest of the world when Obama got elected. I felt so much safer.
Now, we've had a couple of months and it is just ginormous what he has accomplished. I'll admit that I have VEHEMENTLY disagreed with some of the stuff that has come out of the White House in the last couple of months. I've also rejoiced, and more so. I just think about where we were eight years ago. The progress that has been made to righting the Bush wrongs just makes me want to shout "Yesss!"
Last year, I received emails from lots of wingers. This year, I'm getting emails from people who were silent on their Republican tendencies before the election.
Last week, I went to a tea party thingy. One of the local right-wing talk show hosts whipped the large crowd into a froth, with a remorseful admission regarding the largeness of his, ahem, vehicle being the "American way, people." I never did hear an explanation of how roads, water projects, sewers, or other public engineering projects would get paid for without taxes. The largely "conservative" and Libertarian crowd didn't ask.
Several thousand people attended. There were not, however, as many of them as were at the antiwar protest at the same place after the beginning of the Iraqi War.
We are powerful and must stay active to support our progressive agenda. Never take for granted the sheepleness of some people nor underestimate the depths to which Republicans can dive. Those people really believe Rush, and there are a lot of them.
