Best tent for a long fire season in Oregon?
Edited on Mon Apr-20-09 09:50 PM by DemoTex
I'm thinking I need a support tent at the Lookout (some visitors might not like sleeping in the tower when TSTMs are around and when I have to stay up spotting lightning strikes).

So like everything, I research the issue to death. I'm convinced now that I should buy a tipi (tee-pee). That would be a nice semi-permanant addition to my USFS living space.

Cabela's has a cheap knock-off, there is the ubiquitous cowbow (or "range") tipi, and then there is the real thing!

One of the best looking tipis is custom made in Bend(Oregon) by Nomatic Tents ( http://www.tipi.com/?source=google&gclid=COeoz9nb-5kCFRuU7QodnUNRGg ). I'd love to have a 14' tipi set off from the lookout. If they would deliver and set up at East Butte, and either ship or store the poles at the end of the fire season (if I like this gig, I'll be back), I'd be in the game.

What do you think?

One of my all-time favorite tipis.

Love the Shaman too.

This one, too!

BTW: Here are MY digs for the fire season:

Great for my parcel of land for a long term .. but I'm talking a small plot for six months, at the most.

5. I've stayed in one of those before
The fire lookout, that is. You can rent some of those-- and the decks are the best. Or the walls of windows.

Have you considered a yurt? Seriously though- I'd think the guests would prefer to stay up high :)

8. You are well travelled .. indeed!
I had rented several fire lookouts for the summer before an old USFS application payed off! Ended up, I got called by several USFS fire districts. I took the country club lookout in Oregon (Hell .. I'm 61).

I considered yurts. Too permanent.
