If we can torture children to find out where there fathers are...
Why can't we torture members of the Saudi Royal Family to find out where Osama is?

I mean, if torture works so well and we can do it to children, it doesn't follow that we wanted to find Osama but didn't captured a few Saudi Royals to waterboard them (a couple hundred times, if necessary) into revealing where he was.

Instead, Bush flies the bin Laden family members out of the USA following 9/11...

It doesn't make sense!

1. I know what your saying
But He's dead already
The US wouldnt dare do anything to the Saudi Royal Family. They own most of our leaders.
If he was still alive he probably doesnt know anything about 9/11 anyway.

3. Yeah, I know. Even the FBI doesn't credit him with 9/11...

USAMA BIN LADEN IS WANTED IN CONNECTION WITH THE AUGUST 7, 1998, BOMBINGS OF THE UNITED STATES EMBASSIES IN DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA, AND NAIROBI, KENYA. THESE ATTACKS KILLED OVER 200 PEOPLE. IN ADDITION, BIN LADEN IS A SUSPECT IN OTHER TERRORIST ATTACKS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.

We were played for fools...

2. We can.
We shouldn't.

Torture is wrong, and pretty much the definition of evil.

4. Agreed.
I was merely using hyperbole to illustrate gross hypocrisy on the part of the Bushistas and neo-cons. What they're saying and what they're doing are two distinctly different things. But we all know that...

I just wondered why torture was really used, and doubt the "win the war on terrorism" canard...

5. This is at the heart of everything, maybe.
How we treat helpless prisoners tells the world who we really are. If we could divine what's in the mind of the torturer, that might explain much of the wingnut sense of entitlement that's been so damaging to the nation and world.

Given that gentle persuasion can accomplish everything (useful) that torture can, I suspect that we're dealing with the macho fear of being seen as weak. Negotiating with a captive enemy must appear as lowering oneself to that level of helplessness, triggering the usual misogynistic, homophobic alarm bells. We can't forgive that enemy for our need, so to speak, and must ensure that part of the deal is punishment.

Or something.

7. Because Osama died long ago - in fact wasn't Bhutto killed about
a month after she alerted a western journalist to that fact.
