Phil Markoff accused Craig's list killer & College Republican.
(snip)

Friends and acquaintances talking to CBS News have variously described Markoff as “likable," "preppy," politically conservative and “fun to be around."

He grew up in Syracuse, N.Y., and attended SUNY Albany as an undergraduate (Class of 2007).

A member of the College Republicans, he joined a business fraternity there.

2. What is it about the GOP that makes it a magnet to the ...
scum of society?

7. They hate change and personal liberty because they love control
especially over women's bodies. They are selfish because they don't support equal rights and don't support a fair progressive tax system. They are true capitalists in that they work to screw people over for their own selfish benefit. When you are taught to care about self only and control of others at a young age, instead of finding common humanity and decency, you are on a path to destruction.

3. He was also described as misogynistic towards women ...
Ladies should know that a large portion of male Republicans, especially ones that are anti-abortion etc. are very misogynistic and want to control women and sometimes that leads to this case. Stay very far away from these guys Ladies.

6. His fiancee is "still standing by him" because he's so "gentle" and "wonderful."
I'm wondering if she's a moron, or from Stepford, or both?

8. stockholm syndrome perhaps
Edited on Tue Apr-21-09 02:40 PM by cbc5g
She formed a great bond with a perceived powerful, dominant figure. She probably has deep insecurities and he the guy to control those. That's why powerful, dominant and controlling men prey on women like that, they know they can use them and keep them attached.

While the psychological condition in hostage situations became known as “Stockholm Syndrome” due to the publicity, the emotional “bonding” with captors was a familiar story in psychology. It had been recognized many years before and was found in studies of other hostage, prisoner, or abusive situations such as:

* Abused Children
* Battered/Abused Women
* Prisoners of War
* Cult Members
* Incest Victims
* Criminal Hostage Situations
* Concentration Camp Prisoners
* Controlling/Intimidating Relationships

Stockholm Syndrome (SS) can also be found in family, romantic, and interpersonal relationships. The abuser may be a husband or wife, boyfriend or girlfriend, father or mother, or any other role in which the abuser is in a position of control or authority.

9. Or maybe just Stupid Syndrome. She's probably still wrapping her head around the concept that her
judgment in a choice of future husband sucked mightily.

The only bright spot here in this tragic case is that there's an opening at BU med school. Hoepfully the person who fills it will be a better quality individual than this murdering, thieving jerk.

12. My RW BF from 2001 to 2006 (I know, don't even ask) wasn't
anti-abortion or even very misogynistic, but he sure fit the mold otherwise. Everything was always thought of in terms of how it could profit him or knock someone else down a peg, or put furriners in their place, or whatever.

5. Coward, too--his MO was to rob women who work out of hotel rooms.
Pretty sleazy, that. Couldn't even rob a bank, had to trick a woman to get close enough to steal from her.

10. We should've seen that one coming: He joins Ted Bundy & Dennis Rader (BTK)
in the Republican serial killer hall of shame (and there a probably lots more..including several of those assholes who go on shooting rampages). Yes- John Wayne Gacy was a "Democrat" but I'm convinced he was an exception (and a particularly horrendous one, at that).
