Are Business School students right of center?

I am planning to attend B-School and hope to start my own enterprise someday ...

I have seen my cousin morph from a staunch Democrat to a slight Republican over his 2 years at B-School ... I know I will be too busy studying to worry about politics .. but would love the input of any DU'ers who have been through B-School

1. business schools

professors, in my experience, fiscal conservatives which can spill over to their social views as well.

2. I have two B-school degrees

and my strong leftist views are still intact. Business schools are heavily funded by.... wait for it ....big corporations.
The professors are often working on the side for ... big corporations. Everything you are taught is through the
frame of corporatism. Remember they are getting you ready to work in big corporations. Some of us fooled them.

If you are committed to your values and are aware of their perspective, you can get through unscathed.
I did. Graduated both times at the top of my class I learned much that has been helpful in my life going forward.
Just stay awake. Every once in a while you will even get a professor who gets it. Maybe more now that
before. :shrug:

3. I would say it depends on the state the school is in.

At Alabama, the business school is one of the premier schools on campus and is very republican. I was in the Communicaitons college, less prestigous than the Business or Law schools here but much more liberal.

4. Depends on where you're going

If you're going to UCLA, USC, NYU, Columbia, Dartmouth... then it'll tilt more liberal. University of Chicago, Wharton, Duke, etc would tilt strongly republican. I'm attending Bschool and am still a liberal. However, I've always been fiscally conservative.

6. I doubt Columbia is very liberal .. Glenn Hubbard ( Dean CBS) who regulary comes on NPR market place

consistently presents a conservative stance in his opinion.

She's a staunch liberal and says many are like her.

8. I would hardly call Stern "liberal."

But then again anything counts as liberal these days. If you're pro-choice and not completely homophobic, you can union bust and still be a liberal. :shrug:

5. Chamber of Commerce kind of influence...

I think ANY MBA program will show influence of the "trickle-down" Chicago school these days. The thing is to recognize it when you see it, and be armed with information.
