buys into the Cheney logic that
a) We had to do this in the interest of national security;
b) It isn't so bad because they were evil Muslim terrorists;
c) It's all being exaggerated;
d) Waterboarding isn't really torture
e) It's all right if Americans do it because we can do no wrong...etc?

1. Yup, it was called an election. I believe the
Dems = anti torture won by quite a large margin.

6. I somehow suspect that torture was not the foremost issue on voters' minds
as our incipient economic depression was launching itself last November.

4. I googled that this morning. Seems that torture was popular immediately after 9/11...
but fairly quickly became unpopular.

I think the key is whether we allow the "We did to protect America" meme to stand.

I don't think that's why they tortured. See:
