Yes, Carrie. You lost because of your answer.
I think it's great that American's are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land where you can choose...same-sex marriage or opposite marriage, And you know what? I think in MY country, and um, in...in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised and that's how....I think it should be, between a man and a woman. Thank you.

That's OK. You're not alone. Miss Teen South Carolina feels your pain:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj3iNxZ8Dww

I personally believe that, U.S. Americans are unable to do so, because some… people out there in our nation that don’t have maps, and I believe that our education, like such, as in South Africa and Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should… our education over here in the U.S., should help the U.S., er, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future.., for us.

1. I'm sorry, they asked her for her opinion, she gave it and it was the
wrong answer. What am I missing here?

6. She doesn't "represent" anyone except for the SPONSORS
of the pageants.. Miss <any contest winner name here> is just the "hottest" one and will go on to a wonderful career as a spokesmodel/extra/prompter reader.. the money she gets, will go a long way to repaying her student loans and/or her parents, but she 'represents" little else..

3. If she had answered
I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised. She might of still gotten boos but she wouldn't have sounded like a complete idiot trying to figure out which might be the right answer. It was all the BS before and after that line that lost her the crown if it did come down to just that question. I would of thought you couldn't screw up the answer to an opinion question but obviously you can and she showed us how.

10. Shrug.
As she later said, it was her opinion, and she is entitled to that.

At the same time, it was the opinion of the judges not to let her win.

Opinions are funny like that :)

4. I actually think it was when she said:
"No offense to anybody out there..." That is not the kind of language you use in when answering a question in a beauty contest.

I think that if she stated what her beliefs were in an articulate and mature manner, the outcome may have been different. She sounded like she was dumb rather than thoughtful.

7. Do not ask questions of which you might not like the answers..
To be fair she gave her opinion.

Perez is giving average Americans a bad impression of Gays.

Do nor ask question if you will not tolerate the answer.

9. Do you believe the following would be an acceptable response?
Edited on Tue Apr-21-09 07:26 PM by Occam Bandage
I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land where you can choose...should blacks and whites marry, or should races keep to themselves. And you know what? I think in MY country, and um, in...in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a white man and a white woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised and that's how....I think it should be, between a white man and a white woman. Thank you.

If she had said that, would you reply that "she gave her opinion," and we must "tolerate her answer?"

21. If "average Americans" are letting their attitudes about GLBT people
be informed by the judge of a beauty pageant, they're even dumber than I thought.

20. Well fluff my bunting they asked her a question and she answered it...
It's a beauty pageant fer'cry'n out loud. Who were these 'pillars of question asking' to drop such q's into a process that's been known to value baton twirling as a talent? Should the organizers update their charter to clearly include "They answering questions with a string of words we disagree with WILL BE GONE and that means YOU princess!!" you know...ala DU, could be a way to go
