300 union jobs in my small town as of today..gone
Roll coiling plant here in my town of 5000 people just closed. all Union jobs. The other factories are history , too. There are NO jobs left, save an occasional burger flipper or wal mart. and Wally world has cut their work force here to the bone.
Whats left?

2. but even the computer jobs
are outsourced to India...and that includes the workers from India being brought here to take jobs at lower pay.
If there is one thing I am furious about with the current admin, it is their lack of outrage at outsourcing .

3. Outsourcing must be dealt with.
Companies must be given tax breaks for creating jobs here in America, and taxed more heavily for overseas operations. Right now, it's just the reverse. We have to provide incentives to companies for the jobs they create here, or we will continue to lose jobs.

We will never be able to compete with overseas wages, unless we dramatically lower work standards in this country, so there must be something else put in place to make job creation here more attractive to American companies. At the same time, we must also discourage overseas job development by eliminating the things that favor overseas job development.

Take care of America first, create jobs in America that will increase our tax collections and allow us to do more in the future. Makes perfect sense to me. I hope Obama is working on something, I realize he can only do so much at one time, even multi-tasking.

I keep hoping we're going to see this addressed soon. We surely need new jobs in this country, and this seems to be a good start to making that happen.

4. Obama said the jobs wont return
that was a statement like a shot heard round the world. I can only hope enough people call him on it.

11. One of the prices to pay for instant global communication
Outsourcing has been around for centuries, in one form or another. However, in a world of a few hundred regional governments that can be played against each other, and a global network for communication, outsourcing is even easier to do today. From the corporate view, it's not even outsourcing, since there is no place anymore. The various governments are just looking out for their own private interests. It's not just "the people" that get to benefit from that global communication.

6. This is why I've said that card check by itself is not a solution
We may well need to have it in place by the time the Repukes are back in power, but it's really only useful in a full employment economy. In a recession/depression, attempted unionization of previously unrepresented segments of workers is just mass suicide.

7. I am so sad to hear that
You're watching your town go through a major life altering crisis. How is it affecting you personally? Do you think your town is going to make it? Are you all planning on holding town hall meetings or is everyone leaving?

This may sound thoughtless, but I wonder if you would consider keeping a journal of what your town is going through for historical reasons. It could even help you not feel quite so helpless. I'm an amateur writer so this suggestion is something that I do.

8. I am retired so I will be affected by watching
the crime rate rise, as its doing, and the huge exodus of local people..they are leaving in droves..also, the property taxes may be horribly affected..
chicago people have taken over 1/2 of the community, buying the vacated homes on the cheap and setting up second homes. so , during the winter, the town is pretty dead. they come in the summer, and the jobs left now are low paying maid work and shoe shining for the wealthy who have set up shop here as second homeowners.
I think this is happening everywhere.

12. Sucks To Hear About The Loss Of More Jobs; Though Their Being Union Ones Are Irrelevant.
I couldn't care less if they were union or not, since it makes no difference in the reality that x amount of people are now out of jobs.
