The President will be in Newton Ia, today.. at a Maytag factory that closed
and is now a wind turbine factory. Green energy cannot replace everything, there is no one simple single answer, but it is HUGE.

HUGE HUGE, we can start our production economy again on the backs of clean energy usage, that will translate into housing conversions etc, that will open a whole new venue of great blue collar and production jobs.

1. From washing machines to windmills.
I'm glad they found another use for the factory there. For eons Maytag was Newton. Period. For all the bitching and whining coming from the righties about environmentalism Green represents a motherload of new jobs. Even people relatively unskilled will be able to take part in the process rather than having to work at minimum wage fast food or retail.

3. That is so true, this could be the real motherload for
many many production people as opposed to service jobs, that no one can live on.

2. IowaPolitics.com has more on this visit and the excitement Iowa Democrats feel (link-->)
Edited on Wed Apr-22-09 11:01 AM by ClarkUSA
A Newton history buff said Obama’s trip to Newton is the first by a sitting president since President Harry Truman came through town on a whistle stop tour more than 50 years ago.

“The people want the president at their establishment. Before he was president, when he was Senator Obama, he came and he ate at our Maid-Rite,” Allen said. “I remember when he was campaigning, I got to meet him and we sat behind Berg Middle School. A senator from the United States, which was fun. We talked about our kids. Didn’t talk about politics. His kids and my kids are the same age. It will be good to see him again.”

"The Iowa Legislature won’t be shut down that day during President Obama’s visit, but “it might shut us down for a couple of hours,” said Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal, D-Council Bluffs.

4. I am very very excited by the light being shown on how we can
once again gear up a hard production economy to go along with our technological economy and service. Thank you Pres. Obama for coming back to Iowa.

6. Well-said. He's going to speak at 3:15 PM ET, so don't miss it.
Where do you live in Iowa? Will you be able to make it to Newton to greet him? It should be a blast.

8. Well, at least you'll get great state coverage and can pick up the Des Moines Register as a souvenir
Just think, in 2-3 years, you'll be on the frontlines helping President Obama get re-elected. I travelled to Iowa to help Team O
during 2007-2008 mostly along the eastern border and loved every minute except it was very very cold at night. Hope
to do it again although this time, I doubt I'll need to work as hard and long. :)

10. I was driving down the freeway the other day.
Coming the other way I saw one of those "wide load" trucks with the usual pilot cars. I was carrying some goofy ass looking that looked like a giant machete, maybe some airplane wing on its way to Boeing.

Then I realized it was an enormous blade for a wind turbine.

I thought that was great. We're creating jobs and saving the environment.

And a few miles later I saw another truck carrying another blade.

Then another.

Then another.

Then another.

Then another.

Then another.

Then another.

Then another.

Then another.

Yes, we can.
