Conrad: White House wants reconciliation for health care
Prevent bipartisanship? Oh, please. There is NO chance of bipartisanship; it's a pipe dream that needs to be put to bed.

Conrad: White House wants reconciliation for health care
@ 4:55 pm by Eric Zimmermann

Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) said today that the White House is pushing for budget reconciliation language to be included in the health care section of the budget, according to the Dow Jones Newswire.

Conrad said that the White House "sees it as a fallback," but added, "I just don't think it works very well."

Without budget reconciliation language, Democrats would need 60 votes in the senate to pass a reform package. If they use the reconciliation process, they'd need only 51.

Republicans and some moderate Democrats oppose using the fast-track maneuver, arguing it will politicize the process and prevent bipartisanship.

The budget produced by House Democrats includes reconciliation language for health care, but the Senate version does not. The two chambers will hash out their differences in conference committee in the coming weeks.

2. Reconciliation doesn't prevent bipartisanship, it enacts democracy.
And we need health reform, soon.

The GOP prevents bipartisanship.

3. I hope they use it, or it'll never happen.
There is no bipartisanship, there is just no.

4. Help!! Not " politicize the process and prevent bipartisanship." Anything but that!!
WTF do they think the Republicans did since 1994???

Hint: they were not singing Kumbayah to us at campfires.

Whose side is Conrad on? Repugs know if Obama and the dems pass a comprehensive healthcare plan, they're toast. Why are dems still wanting to play nice with repugs when we have seen repeated evidence that repugs have no interest in working with us to get anything done. They want Obama to fail. Why are we still kissing up to these fools.

6. Bipartisanship is dead, and it has been since 1994.
Roll over the Republicans. We won! The President has an incredible mandate--the biggest we've seen since 1984. Congress needs to recognize that and act on it.
