Diaz-Balart blasts Obama for referring to Cuba as ‘Cuba’
2009 April 22
tags: Diaz-Balarts, Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Obamaby Giancarlo SopoRep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart stood up on the floor of the House of Representatives last night and blasted President Obama for his trip to the Summit of the Americas in Trinidad & Tobago this weekend.

Among his grievances with President Obama was that he referred to Cuba, well, as ‘Cuba.’

Advocates for Castro, he said, “Somehow, they knew that President Obama would refer to Castro’s totalitarian fiefdom as ‘Cuba.’

Even for Lincoln Diaz-Balart, this is nutty, especially since he himself referred to Cuba as ‘Cuba’ four times in his speech (:12, 1:30, 3:05, 3:18). I wonder if this implies now that he is no longer a Cuban-American congressman, but rather ‘the totalitarian Castro fiefdomite congressman from Miami?’ Should CANF change its name now to the Totalitarian Castro Fiefdom-American National Foundation?

and just an amusing little bit: Diaz-Balart is, or rather was, the nephew by marriage of Fidel Castro. His paternal aunt was married to Castro for about 10 years, and she's the mother of Castro's first born, a son.

6. Is there ANOTHER "Cuba"? Do we need to distinguish the two Cubas?
I mean I can see it if it were like East and West Germany or North and South Korea or North and South Vietnam (past tense) but there is only one Cuba so there is no need to qualify it by any adjective.

9. The brothers Diaz-Balart are infamous Congressional idiots
though I must say Lincoln's brother Rafael, was one of the best looking guys I've ever seen. He was in a summer in Spain program that I was part of when I was 15 and he was 17.

11. Where do we find these people?
Do they come off an assembly line or something? I mean seriously you'd think our leaders would be smarter than us, not dumber.

10. omg, when he finally gets to the quote, it makes no sense.
Yes, they "knew" that President Obama would refer to Cuba as Cuba, rather like you have several times.

Good grief, they are losing it

12. Cuba has some other name that's more acceptable to the wingnuts?
Edited on Wed Apr-22-09 09:59 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
Even Elian Gonzalez's loony relatives called it "Cuba."

I'm amazed that this story ISN'T from The Onion.
