Anyone else troubled that Nancy Pelosi suddenly remembers being told about the Harman wiretap after
denying it the other day like...

"Oh yeah THAT wiretap.."

:eyes:

How often does the NSA tell the Speaker of the House that oh yeah, a Member of Congress, the body of which she is the speaker, has been illegally wiretapped?

1. I have been unimpressed with Pelosi from the start
she has never been a good leader for the dems, IMO.

And, yeah, she was obviously caught in a lie.

4. She wasn't told of an illegal wiretap!
It was a legal, court ordered NSA wiretap on a suspected foreign agent that Harmon had the misfortune to be caught talking to. According to the CIAs' Goss both Hastert and Pelosi were notified.

7. If she denied the existance of an illegal wiretap that would have been the truth
also if she denied the existance of a wiretap on Harmon (it was actually on the agent Harmon spoke with) that would be true as well.

15. No, there is a massive difference between legal and illegal
illegal things get the people who do them prosecuted. Legal things don't.

8. Yes. Her comments are just bizarre
Edited on Wed Apr-22-09 08:17 PM by Duer 157099
(but then, I find all of her comments to be so)

Look at this one:

"As you know, this is a breaking story, so I don’t know the particulars but I do think that I don’t know that Congressman Harman was wiretapped, I mean somebody was wiretapped and there may have been a conversation. I really do not know enough about it to be an authority on the subject."

I really don't even have to comment on it, it just speaks for itself in how much of a non-statement mealy-mouthed icky political double-speak blah blah blah it is.

It's just creepy.

10. WaPost account
of this:

“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) today acknowledged that she was briefed "a few years ago" by Bush administration officials shortly after Rep. Jane Harman was ensnared in a wiretap. But Pelosi denied that the subsequent criminal review by the Justice Department or any pressure from Harman's pro-Israel supporters played a role in denying the California Democrat's ascension to the chairmanship of the House Intelligence Committee after the 2006 midterm elections thrust Democrats into the majority…

…Pelosi, who had yet to speak about her knowledge of Harman's appearance on the wiretap, said it is a "tradition" for the top Democrat and top Republican in the House to be alerted any time a member shows up on wiretaps or other surveillance devices, something that occurred when security officials were surreptitiously recording the conversations of an American supporter of Israeli causes. She did not let Harman know about the matter: "It wasn't my position to raise it with Jane Harman, no. In fact I didn't even know what they were talking about. All they said was that she was wiretapped."

…Pelosi specifically denied any reports that Harman's campaign, or her original support for the Iraq war, influenced her decision. She said it was based entirely on tradition that the top slot on the intelligence committee -- selected solely by the speaker -- usually serves a two-term limit. Harman was appointed ranking member of intelligence in 2003 and served in that role through two congresses, until 2007…”

The whole thing is creepy, and to know this sh*t goes on all the time, well.....

Good night and good luck

12. Pelosi is the ultimate Beltway
insider, bet-hedger and professional pol. Almost everything about her troubles me and she is emblematic of what is wrong and dysfunctional with our system today. Particularly her infamous table and those revolting pally-wally pictures of her grinning from ear to ear standing next to Bush.

*snark*

On the one hand, her plate's been loaded at the buffet with some options not of her choosing so it's kind of understandable. On the other hand, you have to wonder if a member of Congress' conversation in the operation of an espionage investigation is really such an everyday event that .....

Never mind.
