Impeachment was Off The Table, the Hydra Head left intact, NOW all this scrambling around for crumbs
under the damn table, pointlessly pointing fingers at this level or that,
this department or that, this load of news cycle flimflam or that.

This is why the Constitution provides for the investigation, indictment, trial and removal from office
of the TOP LEVEL PERPETRATORS who violate the Constitution and the rule of law.
WHILE. THEY. ARE. DOING. IT. IN. ORDER. TO. STOP. THEM.

All this gobbledygook on the news and fighting amongst all the various levels of peons
and who should be on the chopping block for a ground up effort is phony and absurd.
How mightily the perpetrators laugh at the shenanigans down Under The Table,
from their lofty perch on the wrong side of history.

In a NewsHour interview with two Congressmembers, which Gwen Ifill framed as regarding "Harsh Interrogation Methods,"
these are the only realistic words spoken:

"...I think that the political discussion about who and who should not be prosecuted, frankly, is a mistake,
and we should all kind of take a deep breath and let the professional prosecutors look at the evidence and see where it leads..."

Yes, too bad Congress didn't do its job and there were no "professional prosecutors"
to deal with the PERPETRATORS of the crimes, when they had the opportunity.

Now it's just another shell game, hide the accountability, find the fall guys,
deliver a dog and pony show and "look forward."

1. Let's see:
Impeachment (no removal from office, possibly a civil law suit) or war crimes prosecution (scrambling around for crumbs under the damn table)?

Tough one.

3. war crimes prosecution >> crumbs we can all enjoy.
Of course we could have had both impeachment and war crimes prosecution, but if we have to settle for only one I'll take war crimes prosecution.

It won't erase the shame of not impeaching but it will help us "move forward".

4. Not unless the Bush admin and Repubs were going to cooperate.
Bush would have handed over nothing. They would have lied, and the Repubs would never have voted for removal from office.

Impeachment is a very serious affair. It is perhaps the most awesome power of Congress, the ultimate weapon it wields against officials of the federal government. The House of Representatives is the prosecutor. The Senate chamber is the courtroom. The Senate is the jury and also the judge, except in the case of a presidential impeachment trial when the chief justice presides. The harshest penalty is removal from office and disqualification from holding future offices. There is no appeal.

So there would have been an impeachment circus.

6. Well, how about this, which I have read is possible (don't know if it's techically true)
try and convict for war crimes, then impeach post facto. If the full truth really does all come out the Republicans might not have a choice.

We get to save a least some of our face, and better yet it will serve as a warning to future "unitary executives". It may even cause a few Supreme Court Justices to consider their decisions more... judiciously.

7. Speaking of Dallas, is "JR" really the reason they changed Junior's nickname to Dubya before he ran
for President? Well, that's what I heard.
