Dialing 211

I had no idea this existed until very recently. Does everyone else know about 211? It's like dialing 911, except that instead of urgent life and death emergencies, it's for social emergencies. Need a food bank? About to get your utilities cut off? Fighting a foreclosure and have no clue where to turn? Can't get medical care? Are you a veteran who needs treatment and can't get help? Need free or low cost child care?

211 is run through United Way and is throughout most of the country (all of Michigan except an area around Traverse City) and is still expanding out. Some 911 centers even have a button to bump callers over to 211 if they need that kind of help. It's a free 24/7 service, 365 days a year. Thought I'd toss this out in case people here need help and didn't realize there's a service for that, so individuals don't each have to do all the research themselves from scratch.

1. In Orlando, the gov't non emergency number is 311.

Traffic info is 511
Phone info is 411.

In Korea the emergency # is 119.

If the UK it is 999.
