Anyone heard of something called "Public Law 111-05"?
Edited on Wed Apr-22-09 10:44 PM by pepperbear
just read a post on a conservative board about the tax on military retiree pay being raised, along with some "special pays" being reduced. this is allegedly the result of "public law 111-05", signed into law feb 17, 2009 by Obama.

anyone have any information at all? Google produced nothing. I'd sure like to debunk this for these cretins.

thanks.

7. found it thanks! let me ask; does this sound like military retiree taxes are being raised?
Public Law 111-05, The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, was signed into law by President Obama on February 17th, 2009. This act authorized a tax credit for most workers including recipients of Retired and Annuity Pay. This tax credit will take the form of a reduction of your federal withholding tax rates. These new federal tax rates will be in place by April 1, 2009 for the payment of retired and annuity pay due on May 1, 2009. The new tables can be found at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/n1036.pdf . If after this tax credit takes affect, you wish to adjust your federal tax withholding you must submit a new W4. You may mail your completed W4 to:

8. God knows what's buried in the over five hundred pages of PL 111-05.
I would ask them to show you the language they're referring to.

4. Tax rates change for retirees, annuitants
-- Retirees and annuitants may see a change in the amount of money they receive May 1 thanks to a new tax credit.

10. The short answer, as always, is . . .
"Prove it." You would then follow up with: Since "Public Law 111-05" is a rather large bill, I'll need a specific citation to evaluate whether the claim about a reduction of "special pays" is accurate, or just bullshit.
