Fact beats fiction: Thepiratebay trial a sham
Edited on Thu Apr-23-09 05:56 AM by Fedja
One of the biggest cases in file-sharing history ended last week with The Pirate Bay Four sentenced to huge fines and jail time. Today it is revealed that far from being impartial, the judge in the case is a member of pro-copyright groups - along with Henrik Pontén, Monique Wadsted and Peter Danowsky. There are loud calls for a retrial.

This is bound to be entertaining to watch.

Edit: just to expand a bit for those that didn't keep track. Henrik Pontén, Monique Wadsted and Peter Danowsky are representatives and/or lawyers that sued TPB in the name of the copyright organizations.

3. Because it's too bizzare
In Sweden, the rule of law is generally observed very strictly. Something like this is seen in an American evening entertainment TV series, but not in practice. The leading legal scholars in Sweden are already slamming the judge with their stances on self-exclusion and how it's unthinkable he even considered presiding over the case, particularly after having changed one of the lay judges for partiality concerns.
