Even though they attempted to legalize I Can't Believe It's Not Torture
I understand that there were some deaths of people held in captivity.
This leads me to the assumption that the Bush torture guidelines may have been violated during the Bush regime.
My questions:
How many deaths? What do the autopsies say the deaths resulted from? How many punishments or investigations by the Bush administration working to enforce it's own policies?
I don't know if the answers to these questions are publicly available or not. But, if they made no move to investigate or punish, then the guidelines are just for show and they never had any intention of enforcing their own (bad) guidelines.
What I am trying to point out is that they most likely didn't even adhere to their own illegal guidelines, proving that they were acting in bad faith generally. They just wanted to tortue, period. Death resulting or not.
4. What needs to happen is that someone needs to release to the American public
what was really done in their name. They have no understanding. Rush and Hannity and Fox are telling them it's just a little waterboarding and fraternity pranks and it saved American lives.
Americans have to know that if they saw or read what really happened, they would feel revulsion and shame and they would demand that it stop.
7. Somehow, they think it's putting a little water on someone's face
I don't think they realize that it is simulated drowning and that it's very possible to have a heart attack and die due to the stress.
I also think that's why the discussion is focused on that by the media. They would prefer not to discuss what some of the other methods really involve.
