Breastfeeding Helps Mother's Heart
University Of Pittsburgh Releases New Research
ORLANDO, Fla. -- New research shows that breastfeeding may help mothers have a reduced risk of heart attack or stroke.
Women who have breastfed have reduced rates of breast and ovarian cancer, but research conducted by the University of Pittsburgh shows that another benefit has been discovered.
"What we found was that the longer a woman breastfed, the better her heart did over a number of years and she was less likely to have had a heart attack or a stroke," Dr. Eleanor Bilma Schwartz said.
Researchers found that even breastfeeding for one month provided protection.
"She was less likely to develop diabetes or high blood pressure, things we know cause heart disease," Schwartz said.
