Pakistani Taliban withdraws from key valley

The Taliban in Pakistan have agreed to withdraw from the north-western district of Buner.

During the past week, the Taliban have been steadily stepping up their presence in Buner, a mountainous district just a two and a half hour drive from Islamabad.

On Wednesday they started armed patrols there, enforcing their strict code of behaviour.

The Taliban crossed into Buner from the Swat Valley where the Government last week agreed to implement Sharia law in exchange for an end to a two-year insurgency by the militants.
