I met a number at a social club I once attended. Politcally we agreed in much. Almost everything in fact. we had men and women working on an open space initiative, Aids prevention, stop the Iraq war and much more.
However the way some of they people made a living left much to be desired. Maybe it's just because I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and a lot of affluent types live here.
Anyway we had Liberals who made a living "flipping houses". This was back in 2002 -2003 or so. First time I heard the term. Now I'm a plumber myself but don't like to twist arms at social occasions. Inevitably though these these guys asked if i could bid some of their work and I agreed to check them out.
"You're too expensive!" He said.
"Well Excuse me Jack but I'm barely making my rent myself. And I didn't receive a trust fund from mom and dad allowing me to buy foreclosures from evicted poor people. Nor is my bid anywhere near as expensive as most of my competition. I do my own work, hire no one and yet still barely make it through the end of the month.
I'm the working poor you so heartily cherish your support for".
Well i didn't end up making many friends from that group. Mostly they liked to form a clique around whover had the fanciest kitchen and the sportiest car.
Some Democrats..
I know that many Democrats actually do "Walk the walk" and I'm not haranguing you. And many of us are just as poor as i am. But some are quite wealthy. Or worse, very materialistic and money oriented.
In their own way I'd say the later group's social gatherings aren't much different from republicans.
"Say Charles, how was that Scuba trip down in Belize"?
"Superb old chum. Say you know William, the people from Central America really do have the best Margaritas"
