17. Maybe I'm just a cynic, but I'm thinking that's her "normal" look
and the producers made her look extra frumpy for the TV show.

This is the look that seems contrived, but she has every right to look however she likes and is comfortable and makes her happy.

38. What does age appropriate mean?
Edited on Sat Apr-25-09 06:00 AM by CatsDogsBabies
She is in her 40s, what she is wearing in her makeover (plain dark trousers and a dark jacket) seems "age appropriate" as well, whatever that means. Isn't she the same age as Demi Moore? Are people in their 40s suppose to look frumpy?

37. Very nice minimalist makeover of most appropriate bits
My thoughts on a Susan Boyle makeover were: (1) eyebrow editing, and (2) dressing in a way appropriate for narrow shoulders. Bravo because that was what was done.

On the hair, her recent photos showed several different styles, so I wouldn't classify a hair change out of the ordinary for her.

And, basically, her body structure was pretty good already -- something which was ignored by most commentators.

So, good show!

13. Hah! You're right...
If you watch a high quality version of the original video (as I have many times)... you may notice that she saunters onto the stage with one arm akimbo... very cheeky, indeed.

I believe there were other moments where Susan acted quirky or cocky that were edited from the original BGT video.

I'm beginning to read stories that she does have a temper and quirky personality... I hope the feeding frenzy for Susan Boyle information does not blow stuff like that out of proportion... I will she would lay low until her next performance.,, to increase her chances.

I love her more than anybody else... and am proud to be one of pre-100K viewers... She should be herself always, but I detect a bit of Asperger's or something that could hurt her before the BGT competition weeks from now.

4. Simon Cowell to Susan Boyle: "Get Yourself Together"
Edited on Fri Apr-24-09 11:48 PM by elleng
Television's Simon Cowell said on Friday he was embarrassed at his initial reaction to British singing sensation Susan Boyle, but warned that just because she is a hit with fans, she is not a winner yet.

Cowell, the creator and a judge on "Britain's Got Talent," said he was fed up with stories about the hair, eyebrows and cats of the never-married 47-year-old Boyle, and he urged her to focus now on winning the television talent competition.

"She has got four weeks to prepare for the biggest night of her life, and she has got to sing better than she sang before with all those expectations on her. But it could all go horribly wrong for her because there are so many other distractions," Cowell told TV reporters in Los Angeles. . .

Recording executive Cowell, who has an option to sign Boyle if she wins the British talent show, shuttles weekly between Los Angeles and London as the judge on "American Idol" and "Britain's Got Talent."

But he dismissed suggestions that his life was stressful. "It's only stress when it doesn't work," he said. "I don't feel under any stress whatsoever when something like the Susan Boyle thing emerges. It is honestly the best feeling in the world."

14. I hope she does...
See my post #13...

I hope someone has the good sense to advise her to lay low until it's her time to be on stage again... I'd hate for her to misspeak or be be quoted out of context and thus harm her chances.

The media is already claiming that she lied about never being kissed, because some stories are mashing up two out-of-context quotes she made in other interviews... Event TYT's Cenk is on this Susan Boyle scandal bandwagon.

We don't know much about her and her beliefs... I hope she doesn't blurt out something crazy or racist... My fingers are crossed.

20. Perhaps, that was a bad hypothetical...
My point was that she is probably as sweet as she seems, and I want her to win the competition. However, I hope she plays her cards close to her chest for now (despite my eagerness to hear her sing more).

We may learn later that she's cranky, chews with her mouth open, or believes that fossils were buried by Jews in 1926 as part of a Zionist conspiracy. I'd rather learn the unsavory stuff after she wins Britain's Got Talent.

35. Fantastic.
The first time I saw her, I mentioned to a friend that there wasn't really anything that...er "different" about her looks that couldn't be adjusted over the course of an afternoon.

Looking at the above photo and how comfortable she seems with it I'd guess that is closer to her normal look, and the initial "Talent" appearance was a bit of showmanship...but so what?

Seriously. So? What?

If she gamed the world a part of me likes her even more.

Well, let me clarify. She was good but she wasn't great. There are people as talented as her or more all over the place. I live in a town of 60,000 in central Wisconsin and I know a handful of people that are as good or better than her. It is the juxtaposition of image to voice that helped make her seem even better. That and the hype of the show, etc.

42. she looks fantastic
Good for her. :D

She's playing it smart, hiding out via her brother. I suspect her family will help protect her from too much spotlight before her new fans get "Susan-fatigue" and move on.

So she did a week or so worth of interviews, both scheduled and "off the cuff," singing on demand -- beautifully every time.

Who the eff wouldn't be exhausted? So what if she's "quirky?" That would be part of the charm, wouldn't it?

And now she can rest and prepare, mostly out of sight, until the next phase.

More power to her. I hope she blows everyone's socks off again in a few weeks.

65. Here's what's ugly
What's really ugly is how uncomfortable it made so many people to see someone who isn't "pretty." People got all in a tizzy immediately about giving her a makeover like it's some kind of a sin not to be superficial. I wish she'd stayed the way she was. But then again if it makes her happy, all is well.

66. Good. I guess
She looked like hundred thousand other non-celebrity women to me before, and she looks a different hundred thousand non-celebrity women now.

It seems this is something she wanted to do, possibly needed to do it if she pursues a career with her lovely voice for marketing. She looked fine before, and she looks fine now, but more album cover ready. The mean-spirited and those with a feeling of sexual entitlement (ie. everyone must give all purpose fuckablility the old college try, or they're not fully human) will have to work harder to hurt her. A bunch of vicious bastards with issues, really.

Love the jacket, btw

Now she is a smartly-dressed and coifed great singer. Stop the presses...NOT!

72. I think her voice made her a smash, which was the whole point
She spent her life serving others so I'm glad that she's getting a bit of pampering now. It's pretty minor as far as "makeovers" go, but I think she looks great!

75. This is not a slam on Susan...She chose to do the makeover and she does deserve pampering...
My point is that a woman with a beautiful voice, while not a dime a dozen, is far from being so novel.

80. I got my Daily Dose of Susan here today:
http://www.susan-boyle.com/video/Listening-Post-The-Boyle-phenom

There's also an Elaine Paige/Larry King thing there. I'd never heard of her pre-Susan. She's been out there quite some time, is TERRIFIC but NEVER really penetrated stateside consciousness. All the Divas are being so gracious. I LOVED IT when Patti told Susan she cried.

79. I'm not seeing the fashion. I'm hearing the voice.
